i was wondering if it was possible to make all of fo3 (including dlc for fo3) a huge fully playable dlc for new vegas?

im not a modder. i have no idea what this would require. i think since the games are so similar it might be possible.

any ideas?

As a releasable mod:

Possible? Yes.

Legal? No.

Importing\Exporting offical content from one game to the other is illegal if planning on a releasable mod.

As a private setup purely for use on your own system, without distributing the work?

Possible? Yes.

Legal? It's your system, do what you want. As long as it stays on your system alone.

It's far too much work to do just to keep to yourself though, and not worth the effort or trouble you'd have by releasing it (mainly, a LOT of trouble).

what about instructions? leaving the use of files up the owner of the files?

i'd be willing to do this if i had understandable instructions.

i just wouldnt know where to begin.

maybe a programmer could develop a program to

do what needed to be done with the user's files?

i dunno... i guess i have to learn how to do all this myself.

I think its possible legally,

but only if the users bought both the games and someone makes a mod that allows you to use them together

But its so much work your just better off playing them seperate..

THat's the exact same mindset that was seen with the creators of the lamented Morroblivion. They believed since it was even the same company, they were allowed to port it when the player owns both games. But some resources in either game were licensed from other companies for use only in that particular game. With two companies, Obsidian and Bethesda involved, it'd likely make an even bigger legal muck.

Well actually as long as you don't use the resources from FO3, and just make it so that those who have FO3 can play it, it should be fine.

Also if someone wanted to they could just add something like a functioning plane or boat to take you to DC. Basically it would be near the same as making a file so you can use meshes/textures from a FO3 DLC usable for FNV. I believe that's legal as long as you don't provide any resources from Fallout 3 or it's DLC for download.

If thats possible, than it should be After Project Purity that you arrive (Like the beginning of Broken Steel) and have you go from there, but as an unknown.

There would be holes, because you have to be recognized by some people, but it wouldnt be too much of a big deal.

technically speaking its possible, but i dont think you'll ever see it - without even going into legal issues. You cant just load the F3 resource files, you'd need to integrate all resources into NV manually which would be years of work. Also it would make very limited sense as the story lines are very different (Vault boy searching Dad vs Wasteland courier) and it would simply be too many quests. Like you'd end up as a lvl 30 tough guy doing crap quests for crap exp that wont be accounted anyways. To make it short - it is technically possible, but so much work it's extremely unlikely we'll ever see that. Plus it would make limited sense story wise.
