So if you are having trouble loading your saved game with your new merged patch because of the " This save data was created with a newer version of the game" message, I have a solution for you.

Go to the patch folder, the one that caused you the white screen crash at the finding skyhold cinametic, and open the file package.mft with notebook. Here look at the version number and remember it. Now you open the patch folder from the one that is causing the message This save data was created with a newer version of the game, here you open the package.mft with notebook and you set the version number to the same number that you remember from when you checked the package file from the other patch that caused the whitescreen, and save the file. Now make sure that this folder is named Patch and is placed in your update folder and you are ready to go.

I realize this is an old thread, but since I recently ran into this issue myself, I thought I would post some insight I learned from other forums.

The "white screen" issue seems to be associated with Nvidia graphics cards and the game's "post-processing" settings. The bug seems to happen consistently if "Post-Processing Quality" is set to High, so lowering that setting to at most Medium should prevent it.

Well I play in medium and I had the problem anyway :ermm: I even lowered everything on low even the scale on 25 instead of 100 it didn't work, but at least the clean merge worked for me maybe the medium settings will work for others :)

Well I tried the various ideas others here have posted, what finally worked for me was doing a mod merge with all my mods deactivated leaving only the main patch. I don't know why that worked but I am very happy I did finally find a fix.

So I've had this problem and I'm officially sick of hearing "The Dawn Will Come". While this makes me sad, I did eventually get past that and all the way to Skyhold by removing all of my mods.

Then the new problem came up: After I re-merged all of my mods back in, none of them are showing up. I can successfully load my save files (I had to change the patch to version 9) but once they are loaded no mods work anymore :(

I also just tried loading my pre-Haven falling save and now the mods aren't working there anymore either. :(

Help??

This is an issue I've had from time to time since February. Until recently, I had a Nvidia GTX 620 graphics card. It's below specs but I had no trouble getting the game to work. The issue never cropped up until I started using mods in February. This is what I've discovered:

-It's a graphics rendering issue and like Thandal said in an earlier post, it seems to be limited to Nvidia cards. Updating all graphics software is a must!

-I worked this problem for a couple of weeks and found that the easiest fix is to remove all mods, run the game & play to Skyhold, then put the mods back. Until the latest ModManager came out, that was a time consuming but sure fix. Once you do this, you will have to go into the Update folder within the game files and change the version number in the Package file to a higher number. For example, if your Package file says version number 8 with mods installed, after mods are removed it will need to be version 8 or higher to work. This one is trial and error guys so just keep upping the number until your game loads. One thing I noticed here is that every time you update, reinstall, or repair the game, you will need to raise the version number one digit. Right now, I'm running on game version 19.

I found through the process of elimination on my own computer, that for me at least, mods that affect your Inquisitor's appearance seem to be the culprit. So I removed all PJ, makeup, hair, and appearance mods from the game. My game ran right through the Skyhold talk with no problems. The biggest culprit for me is eye appearance and graphics enhancement mods. They bog down the card so it gets stuck. I no longer play with them because of this. Examples of this type of mod are Sweet Fx and HD Eye mods.

Greywolfe's suggestion above does work for many but it did not work for me. However, I recommend you try it to eliminate that as a solution. If it works, great!

This is not to say it's a cure for what ails each of your cards. It's limited to low-end graphics cards due to the sophistication of the programming needed to run the game. Everyone's computer rig is different and there are unlimited combinations so there is no way a game developer can predict how a game will run on a specific rig. By necessity they have to research the most popular graphics cards and processors and set their limits there. Those of us with lower, older cards are left in the dark and forced to either upgrade or make due. It's the nature of the gaming industry for PC and it won't change.

FYI: My hubby's computer blew out a motherboard the other day and it's cost prohibitive to fix so I gave him the old GTX 620 card tower and picked up a new tower with a GTX 750. The game runs great so far but I haven't gotten to the "Talk" yet so I'll check that later in an old game & update you. Good luck to all!

I've been battling this problem for hours on end now and I'm completely stuck where you are.

The .mtf format seems to be corrupted after editing the patch file.

I can't restore it! I've tried going through regedit to restore all file associations, I've tried doing a system restore, I've gone through all the steps recommended by windows. Nothing works!

My mods just aren't showing up, even when reinstalling the game multiple times. The package.mtf for mods just doesn't carry the information, I've opened it with wordpad and notes, and when opening the patch pack and the mod pack the same text appears in the viewer;

"Name patch

Authoritative

Version 9

ModManager v0.52 alpha"

Whenever I try to delete the association, the file still binds to wordpad when opening it, even after deleting my explorer.exe in current processes. I can't change it through properties either.

The game starts, and runs, but without mods I just don't find it worth playing again.
