I've been modding myself ever since Morrowind and longer than I knew the Nexus even existed, yet I never released anything I created. I'd thought I'd change that. So I present:

1. What is this?

"Pirates of Skyrim: The Northern Cardinal under the Black Flag" is a massive expansion of the superb "Northern Cardinal" mod by swordboy, that I created by subsequently modding "Northern Cardinal". It is one of probably over 50 mods I've made for myself but never released. As stated, I would like to make this the first I do release. Thankfully, swordboy has granted me permission to do so and the release is only a matter of making it ready to ship (pun intended), meaning the content is there (100% finished). Everything that still needs to be done and how you can help is listed in section 4.

 

2. Features

Currently the features are the following (I plan on adding more depending on how well, if at all, this mod is received):

 

a)-The Sea of Ghosts-

Sail the Northern Cardinal (that's the ship's name if you haven't played the mod before) to the Sea of Ghosts and explore the ocean floor. Dive for pearls the size of your head and discover sunken ships filled with treasure waiting for you to loot them. Rescue a shipwrecked blacksmith from a slow death at sea and make him part of your crew.

The 'ocean features' (as I call them) like wrecks and treasure etc. spawn and unspawn randomly every time you sail the Sea of Ghosts creating the illusion of an actual ocean you are sailing.

b)-Naval Battles-

Use one of three telescopes onboard to find enemy ships waiting to be boarded and have their cargo seized.

Tell your crew mates to be part of the boarding squad, guaranteeing that they will be in the first row when the action is happening.

c)-Crew Morale System- (can be disabled)

Your crew won't be sailing for free anymore. From time to time you will have to either share the spoils of your pillaging with them, or, even better, provide them with bottles of rum!

The amount of gold you will have to pay is based on a formula I came up with that does not make a smaller crew necessarily cheaper to maintain than a larger one and further takes the players gold into account.

 

d)-Expansion of the Captain's Cabin: Trophy Room with Displaying Booths-

Buy the upgrade for your cabin for a hefty sum and 'craft' special booths displaying the unique treasure you have pillaged.

Each of the booths provides a special, themed bonus and, more importantly, looks cool.

 

e) More to come?

I do have ideas for at least two more naval battles and larger expansions up my sleeves. However, this largely depends on how well this whole first-time-releasing-something experience goes.

 

 

3. Requirements

I predominantly made this for myself and thus built it on base of the esp I use which is the NorthernCardinal.esp for the legendary edition without Falskaar/Wyrmstooth. Again, if there will be other versions depends on how well it goes.

 

 

4. What is left to do and how you can help

 

I just need to remove some custom armor from some pirate captains and that's it. I'll release it either later tonight or tomorrow.

And just pack a BSA and your .esp. Make the .esp dependant on the .esmified version of Northern Cardinal, be sure to state the requirement in your description near the top (people are loathe to read descriptions, it seems :P ) and that's it. Anyone without the .esp for Northern Cardinal (legendary version) will not be able to play. However, Falskaar/Wyrmstoothians will not either so perhaps make a version that is dependent on that one as well. Wouldn't need any changes .esp side. Might cause issues though, as the forms have different IDs. Just backup and try it.

Thanks, mate, much appreciated. I guess the longest part is dodging the curveballs the CK is constantly throwing at you when you're creating content.

 

Let me try to understand this.

I pack a bsa with my esp. Ok. Esmified version of NC? That one I would have to create first and include it as well, right? Assuming I did that, I guess with TESEdit I would have to remove the identical to masters edits, leaving my esp with only the additions/alterations to NC, right? Sounds good.

 

So, that would be, let's say, Pirates.esp + NC.esm(?) + NC.bsa + Pirates.bsa as requirements? The NC.bsa they get from the original mod so they'll need both.

You don't include the .esm. Yours isdependent upon the download of Northern Cardinal, so they just need to DL from that mod page.

Nevermind, I got permission to just package everything together in one bsa. Now all that remains is for LordKarnak to reply to my message.

 

One thing though: If I can't get explicit permission from an author of some clutter resources, not because they deny it but because they have not been active in a year or so, that means I can't use them, right? I don't want to get banned because of clutter.
