firefly223
Tell Jarl about Riverwood being in danger, and get thanked and rewarded. and then maybe at a level the player sets with MCM. a Courier comes to you and gives you a letter, the letter is from Balgruuf telling you basically that you seemed to be a capable person when they met, I have a task that is suited to someone like you (But you know, in character) you go to the Jarl and then the Quest initiates, with appropriate use of his lines in the right places and such. I think it would give me and many players who don't like completely ignoring the story, but also don't want to be shoved into it some releif. ( I know About the alternate starts, and everything like that. If there is a mod that is what I described here please post a link, because I couldn't find it) If you want to read my big sob story, and full reasoning with me personally about why I would like this mod I will post it below. I have played Skyrim a lot, and after several play-throughs I began to get very methodical with how I like my game to be played. I like playing as if it was me or a character I come up with, just to spice up the game, and it works! the only big issue is the main quest itself, I like having it, it gives me a feeling of purpose, but at the beginning of a game I like to spend a few levels just earning some gold and getting levels adventuring etc. The problem is that when I go tell the Jarl about Riverwood they immediately send me on the Bleak Falls barrow quest, something I feel I can only put off so long before I or any character would realistically put it off "The favor of a Jarl, maybe a few days to prepare, but it will get done!" and after that it's all down hill and I can't ignore it forever and screw around. so I was thinking if someone could make a mod in which it delays when you go to bleak falls barrow
OpenWorldAddict
I would also like to see a mod that paces out the main quest so that you can progress down the path at a slower rate. This may be to much to ask, but it would be nice if the main quest is spaced out not by level but by amount of time passed. Bleak Falls Barrow:So as you said, when you oomplete 'Before the Storm' the jarl thanks you, rewards you and then sends you away. After a week has passed one of two things occur:1. If you are in Whiterun, then the Jarl's housecarl comes to see you letting you know that the Jarl needs to have another word with you.2. If you are in another part of Skyrim, you get a letter from a courier by the steward telling you to visit the Jarl as soon as possible. Furthermore, the golden claw should not have been stolen by the bandits before completing 'Before the Storm' making it impossible to pick up the quest 'The Golden Claw' before visiting the Jarl. Way of the Voice:After returning with the Dragonstone at the end of the Bleak Falls Barrow quest and defeating the dragon during the subsequent 'Dragon Rising' quest, you don't get summoned by the greybeards until a month has passed. At that time, again you are asked to visit the Jarl of Whiterun who will explain the summons. Diplomatic Immunity:After defeating the dragon Alduin razed during the quest 'A Blade in the Dark' Delphine takes a month to figure out how you will infiltrate the thalmor embassy. The Throat of the World:After finding Alduin's wall with Esbern and Delphine, the greybeards refuse to teach you the clear skies shout that will let you climb the mountain to see Paarthumax until you have learned 6 complete shouts, not including Unrelenting Force. (that's 18 word walls to find.) Season Unending: After getting Ulfric and Tullius to agree to meet at High Hrothgar for the peace council, Ulfric and Tullius are very cautious and take there time getting there. Thus after doing so, the greybeards will tell you that they'll let you know when it is time for the council. When that time comes, you get a note listing the time and day of the week the council will be held on. So those are MY ideas for slowing down the main quest. Boombro
The world is ending. It makes no sense to make it like an fighting anime where you have to train with some old people. The main quest is slow as it is. firefly223
I like your Idea about slowing it down, as long as I could configure it with MCM. however, Just a small change in Bleak Falls Barrow would be more than enough for me. cdcooley
I have a personal mod that I could share. It puts two pauses in the main quest and makes a few other little edits that I think make it more sensible. Specifically, here are the changes it makes:Breezehome is available for purchase immediately after giving Farengar the tablet from Bleak Falls Barrow and Ireleth does not appear to introduce the first dragon sighting.Three days after giving Farengar the tablet the journal entry "I wonder if Farengar has made any progress on his Dragon research." will appear. Ireleth's scene about the first dragon sighting will start the next time the player visits Farengar. You actually retrieve the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller and can return to the Greybeards with it immediately.Three days after retrieving the Horn a courier will deliver a message from Delphine. "Dragonborn -- I need to speak to you. Urgently. -- Delphine of the Sleeping Giant Inn in Riverwood"Some of the "cloak and dagger" dialogue is stripped from the Delphine introduction, but she still will want to see the Dragonborn in action for herself. The silly link to the civil war quest (which only triggers when you don't have an interest in the civil war as a way to force you into it) has been disabled. Balgruuf will still think it's crazy to trap a dragon, but since the entire process takes only a few minutes and presents no real opportunity for either side in the civil war to stage an attack this pointless and tedious activity is disabled. It would also be easy enough to strip out any of those changes. I use a 3 day time delay as a minimum pause between stage, but some of my characters don't bother visiting Farengar or Delphine for much longer. Some just aren't that curious about the business of wizards or urgent messages from innkeepers. I put the pauses in the places I did because that was where I found fairly easy spots to break the dialogue so that it still made sense with minimal changes. There may be a way to make the break between your first meeting with Balgruuf and the start of the Bleak Falls Barrow quest, but I didn't find it. Making everything configurable via the MCM would require effort on my part, but if someone else wants to start with what I have and extend it I'll be happy to share. cdcooley
This may be to much to ask, but it would be nice if the main quest is spaced out not by level but by amount of time passed.I agree that it's time that really matters for the story. Not too much time, but at least a little. There's a sense of false urgency that doesn't enhance the storyline. Bleak Falls Barrow: I found it much easier to put the pause after the Bleak Falls Barrow quest. Way of the Voice: After returning with the Dragonstone at the end of the Bleak Falls Barrow quest and defeating the dragon during the subsequent 'Dragon Rising' quest, you don't get summoned by the greybeards until a month has passed. At that time, again you are asked to visit the Jarl of Whiterun who will explain the summons.Unfortunately since it's the Dragonborn absorbing a dragon soul that gets their attention I think it's realistic that the summons comes right away. Diplomatic Immunity: After defeating the dragon Alduin razed during the quest 'A Blade in the Dark' Delphine takes a month to figure out how you will infiltrate the thalmor embassy. She says it will take time and the journal entry says she needs to consult her contacts, so I just have my characters do things for a while and then eventually visit her. A more explicit delay might be nice, but it's easy enough to insert your own based on the journal entry. The Throat of the World: After finding Alduin's wall with Esbern and Delphine, the greybeards refuse to teach you the clear skies shout that will let you climb the mountain to see Paarthumax until you have learned 6 complete shouts, not including Unrelenting Force. (that's 18 word walls to find.)That does get uncomfortably close to Boombro's complaint about needing to train with old people. And since word walls are assigned randomly complete shouts can take a long time. Season Unending: After getting Ulfric and Tullius to agree to meet at High Hrothgar for the peace council, Ulfric and Tullius are very cautious and take there time getting there. Thus after doing so, the greybeards will tell you that they'll let you know when it is time for the council. When that time comes, you get a note listing the time and day of the week the council will be held on.I prefer to just dispense with that silly quest entirely. It's tedious even if I do enjoy some of Rikke's comments. It doesn't appear if you've already make significant progress in the Civil War quest line and it's pointless if you haven't started. The entire dragon capture episode takes a few minutes which is hardly enough time for anyone to stage an attack on the city.
firefly223
Cdcooley, that sounds like a wonderful mod, it seems almost perfect. and gets rid of the two most annoying things in the main quest, 1. Delphine being a paranoid wreck and 2. the trek to High Hrothgar to settle a petty dispute just for the two or so in game hours it takes to capture the dragon. If you could share it I would be absolutely grateful. (I use a no fast travel mod, so one less trek to High Hrothgar sounds sublime). you said you could easily change some of those things, so if you could, could you make the time frame from giving Farengar the tablet to 7 days. and about 14 days for Delphine's message, but if you prefer to not change anything and just upload as is, that's fine. cdcooley
I've decided to add an MCM menu after all. The delays are configurable and skipping the negotiation is optional. It's late here so I'm going to hold off on testing it until tomorrow. But I should have it ready soon.
