Switching to PC from PS3

Figured I'd make a newbie thread.

And a little back story.

I played Fallout 3 on the PS3 and loved it, it was a bit glitchy with some game crashes but was still a great game (even if the DLC was unplayable at times) I bought Fallout New Vegas for the PS3 too and it is because of this I'm probably going to switch over to PC gaming specifically for the Fallout games. New Vegas is too glitchy for me, more game crashes than Fallout 3 and it nearly killed my PS3 yesterday so with the incentive of hopefully a less glitchy game on the PC, mods and future DLC way before it comes out on PS3 (and DLC that will hopefully be stable) I shall be playing on the PC instead. My plan is to get Fallout 3 GOTY first (only costs £12.99 at Game) then when DLC comes out for New Vegas I'll get it for PC.

So hello, I'm a slightly unhappy Fallout fan who usually plays on the PS3 :P Who may well ask stupid noobish questions about playing Fallout 3 on the PC :P

Welcome to TheNexus

Unlike PS3 you will have to do some work to get things to work on a PC. It's not just stick the game cd in and play. You will have to learn a little (not much) about file structure and where files go. We have lots of help for that here.

Once you have that figgured out, its a whole new world where you get to play the game like you want to with things you want to change or add. Rather than the game they made for you to play the way they decided it should be played.

Well I can already see the improvement in graphics and load times. It feels like a completely new game. The only thing I'm having to get used to is keyboard and mouse rather than a Playstation controller - I'm tempted to get an Xbox one.

And you're not wrong about the "stick the CD in and play" bit. 20 minute install for disc one, and then disc two wouldn't install! Luckily I found a post on here about installing the second disc in Safe Mode and it worked.

Once you get used to the mouse & keyboard you will find you have far better control than with the ps3 controller. I read an article on why they don't have PC players vs console players in multiplayer shooters - It's because their tests showed the mouse KB combo allowed a mediocre player to beat a very good console player 9 times out of 10. Not a good showing for the console controller.

I remember exactly that problem with Quake3 on the Dreamcast, you had to buy the keyboard and mouse or winning a match become damn near impossible.
