Western Themed Power Armor

I love the idea behind the Courier 6 Power Armor Mod, unique power armour for the PC that doesn't match any of the factions in the game, however it isn't my style. I think it is well made and has a great level of detail, but it doesn't fit my character. Even with the option to remove the "Courier 6" tag and the less rusty version, it doesn't suit me.

What I'd love to see is a western inspired suit of power armor. Mad Max meets Clint Eastwood.

I am a sculptor, a costume designer, and prop builder, however my game modding skills end at editing item stats with the GECK. Computer graphics are beyond me as I have a fear and loathing of numbers. I am a very tactile and hands-on artist with limited digital art abilities.

I plan on building an actual costume along these lines, but I have no way of making one for the game. I run a small prop and special effects company, and we are going to create a group of costumes of our original characters from the Fallout universe. I'm essentially going to describe what I am going to build for my character.

I want to bring back the shoulder cape and chain from Fallout Tactics:

BUT have the fabric be more like Clint Eastwood's sarape:

I don't wear power armor helmets with my PC's, opting for something with more personality. For instance, I wore Abe Lincoln's top hat with Tesla Armor. I would love to see Clint's hat from Pale Rider with some kind of gas mask and/or goggles:

The gas mask could be taken from the part of the T-51-b helmet that covers the mouth, but reduced in size. Goggles could just be the "Model Steel" from the Sunglasses Collection Mod. Circular lenses, Trigun or Hellsing style.

Overall, it would be aesthetically similar to the Tribal Power Armor (Ashur's Power Armor) from The Pitt, with bits of rust, patched plates, and scavenged parts, but using a base other than the T-45d. With less distress and with western filigree textures in places.

I would prefer it to use the Remnants Armor as a base, for several reasons. I love the Fallout 2 look. There have been numerous alternate versions of both kinds of Brotherhood Power armor: the Outcast, Medic, Tribal, and Winterized versions, among others. Also, It is not a carry over from Fallout 3 and has not been modded to my knowledge.

However, the Remnants Armor would probably look ridiculous without the helmet and with a western hat, so I imagine that the large topmost shoulder piece would have to go, as much as I like it. Possible replacement ideas could be the Fallout 3 Tesla Armor shoulder pad on the right side and a Brahmin skull on the left. The sarape fabric could wrap around the back to cover the area where that shoulder plate used to go, covering the area above the awesome glowing vent. Maybe bits of the front of the removed shoulder plate could be used to retain some of the look of the Remnant armor and patch together the Tesla shoulder pad and skull.

I also prefer the leg armor from the T51-b, though perhaps the boots could be modified to have heels more like cowboy boots and given spurs (spur noises with the footsteps would be AMAZING). Spikes on the toes of the boots would be a nice touch as Boba Fett was inspired by Clint Eastwood.

The arms could also be replaced with the Hellfire or Tesla arms (maybe one of each) as the Remnant arms are a bit bland.

I'd also add at least one gun belt, thigh straps, etc. Large, decorative belt buckles are a must. Buckle ideas:

Two belt buckles I own and am going to include in the costume:

Also piercings, bullet holes, and feathers in the hat like Brom's Gunslinger painting (and possibly also a crumpled Ace of Spades card tucked in the brim):

Things I would personally avoid: fringed leather, sheriff's badges, and ass chaps. LOL

If someone were to make this, I would be extremely grateful. I'd want it to be freely distributed, all I'd ask for is credit for the design and a link to this thread and to my website, Outland Armour.

If anyone is interested, I might be able to whip up some sketches if necessary.

I've thought of a few name ideas for the armor, though that is less important and be easily changed with the GECK: the Drifter Power Armor, Guinness's Power Armor (the name of my character), the Power Armor with No Name (LOL). Of those my current favorite is the Drifter Power Armor.

Great ideas! Just voicing my support for the idea :)

I am a modder myself but I'm currently in a large mod project for another game and dont have the time to do it.

I also envy your job, hehe. I have a bachelors in Model Design and Special Effects and one day hope to do what your doing!

Thanks! And good luck with your SPFX work!

Tony the wookie (FO3 modder) made a Midwestern brotherhood PA for FO3 obviously. You should ask him to port his mod into NV.

His mod is cool, but I'm not after the Fallout Tactics armor. I just included that image to illustrate the shoulder cape and chain.

Like the idea but can I make a suggestion, Nearly all the Fo armor is based on one visual concept, The American football linebacker. Big! shoulders tapering to dainty feet, y'know what I mean?

Nearly all because the Hellfire armor broke the paradigm by pulling the shoulders in a bit and Increasing the boots/calf size making the model look less top heavy, more balanced and solid (an it came in black).

Even scaling back the hip/thigh element would reduce the top heavy effect without going 'flared trousers' on you. I know increasing the weight of the look downwards might be going 'transformers' for some, dangerously anime but there's a lot of folk out here who are more familiar with that than the 'football' effect.

Finally unless the shoulders are balanced or reduced I'd suggest the broad brim hat would need to be enormous. Either very broad or quite tall (which may be hard to pull off)

Oh yea, the backpacks on armor??? do people like clipping. . .
