Installing new races...having problems with hair

I am using Ren's hair pack. I enjoy adding new races to the game. Sometimes things work perfectly, but about half the races I install and I can't change the hairstyle. Regardless of where I put the mod in the load order, whatever hair is shown in the character creation screen is the hair I get - I can't change it.

 

Has anyone else experienced this issue or know how to solve it?

Hair/cosmetic packs often interfere with races and vice versa. You need to either merge them, or choose one and put it last in the load order. Of course the hairs from whatever you put last in load order still won't show up as options on other races that are not last in the load order.

 

Personally I choose to merge mods of this type (cosmetic/race), so I can have my 25+ races all sharing hair and eye resources. There's a tutorial about how to do it using the CS in my signature. Some other people who are more experienced with some other options may come along and offer additional suggestions.

You can use Wrye Bash and a Bashed Patch to merge race records, amongst many many other things.
