Hofstadter
While playing Fallout 3 I never took advantage of the companion feature. I just felt that they got in my way too much. I didn't even keep Dogmeat with me.But in New Vegas, I just can't find it in myself to send Cass away. She's too likeable! And her no alcohol addiction perk is invaluable to my character with a low starting charisma. So you can imagine my dismay when I waltz into the Silver Rush for the first time with Cass in tow. As soon as her ashes hit the floor I picked up that Plasma Caster and killed EVERYONE! Then I loaded the autosave and killed them all again three or four times. So thank you Bethesda/Obsidian, for making a companion NPC that I actually enjoy having around... and then taking her from me.

zerrodefex
If you enter the Silver Rush without Cass earlier and started the Van Graff's quest the final step is to find Cass and bring her to them. It's pretty well implied that you'd be leading her to her doom, but if you already have the quest they won't kill her on sight, but instead you will get a conversation and a chance to talk them out of it or start the fight on a more fair footing. Anyhow, companions are much more fleshed out and useful in New Vegas. Everyone in FO3 aside from Fawkes was boring and just got themselves killed easily, New Vegas companions are more hardy and the companion wheel makes it far easier to control them. Plus the side quests for each of them add to the overall experience as well, I'll eventually try all of them just to see their stories. I'd also recommend getting Veronica and starting her quest before visiting Hidden Valley. That way you can walk right into the BoS bunker without having to be strip searched. leetgamer
<3 Boone. He and I both love killing legionnaires then shoving their denarii where the sun don't shine.
Liquidacid23
<3 Boone. He and I both love killing legionnaires then shoving their denarii where the sun don't shine. It is rather fun to kill legionnaires then use the denarii you loot off them to make 12 gauge coin-shot shells and shoot them back into other legionnaires .. zerrodefex
does raul lily and boone has side quests ? All of the companions have side-quests. ED-E's can start before you reactivate him if you talk to John Nash about the broken robot in his shop. Otherwise it will start the moment you reactivate him.Boone is interesting in that he has two, one which can be done before you recruit him.Veronica's is triggered if you take her to certain places like HELIOS ONE or Camp McCarran. It also allows you to walk into Hidden Valley without the annoying strip search part.Cass is odd in that her's can start before you can recruit her, which leads you to the You Can Depend on Me quest from Crimson Caravan which has a part where you can convince her to join you. Or you can start the other quest first and it will send you back to Cass.Rex's is started before you actually get to take him anywhere, just talk to The King.Arcade's requires you to be hostile with Caesar's Legion, then just take him to certain places where he will start talking and you can question him enough to confide in you.Raul's is annoying in that is it not only unmarked but also impossible to complete if you talk to Ranger Andy and have him teach you the Ranger Takedown move without Raul being present to watch.Lily's is odd in that you don't actually need to use her for most of the quest, taking her with you to the Nightstalker Cave is optional and you can use the Science dialog to end the quest early as well. Yukichigai
Cass is The Companion for New Vegas just like Fawkes was The Companion for Fallout 3. Well... maybe not as strongly. Boone's default, infinite-ammo weapon is incredibly powerful for when you're liable to first run across him. Having him with you pretty much guarantees you won't be killed by Cazadors so long as you keep your distance. On the other hand, when she gets the Calm Heart perk Cass has the second-highest health out of any of the human-ish companions. When she gets Hand of Vengeance... well NOBODY else has a perk that directly modifies firearms damage like that. An extra 15% damage really stacks up when the weapon she's using is something insane like an Anti-Materiel Rifle. And then there's her companion perk, which turns Whiskey into "Med-X Lite". DT +2 isn't bad at all, but that bonus is affected by your Survival skill: at 100 it becomes DT +6. Compare that to the other companion perks and the closest in terms of usefulness is Boone's Spotter perk. The rest? Eh. Raw damage reduction is WAY better. Also, frankly, Cass is the most charming and has the most consistently enjoyable dialogue. Arcade has some funnier one-liners, but Cass is just more likeable. She's a drunk, she has strong ethics and firm opinions, and is up front with all of these things. What's not to like? Finally, when the Birds of a Feather quest came to that point it didn't even enter my mind to let Cass get shot. I gave Jean-Baptiste a .308 JSP facial with my Sniper Rifle and hacked Gloria's arm off with a Fire Axe just because the Whiskey got me onery and I wanted to hurt something. Cass, of course, took out half the guards on her own while I was doing that. No fading flower, that one. In short, Cass = win.
