Ratings Cap

  1. 1. Should there be a cap on ratings?

  2. 2. Hall of Fame option?

The rating system on Nexus sites is an invaluable tool for users to quickly filter through some of the more popular mods. It even works in reverse, for the comic relief? Classic and 'must-have' mods enjoy a continued popularity even long after their authors have moved on. For new people looking for quality mods, this can be helpful. But for new modders, it is not. Here's why.

A new mod may surface and be exceptionally well done, there are many recent examples. Still, they won't appear in the default sorted view because they don't have the thousands of endorsements that an 'old' mod has. A new user won't see the fabulous, new mod that only has 10 endorsements - or worse still - ignores it because it's has such a limited response. What I'd like to propse is this.

A cap. An endorsement cap (say 1000?) that, once reached, places the mod in a 'Hall of Fame' of sorts that does two things; 1 - it prevents new endorsements and 2 - allows users to better filter 'Classic' mods, vs. the new up-and-coming mods. Clearly, there are many 'must-have' mods but for those who want to expand beyond that, another option should be available. It also encourages modders to produce great mods with the knowledge they will be clearly made available to users.

Cheers.

Humm... A cap on rating, while believable, seems odd to implement, since very few files ever reach 1000 to begin with... same thing with the Hall of Fame; sounds a lot like the Top 100 feature, since any file around 1000 and then some will be on it already.

New mods will get their recognition when being towards the top of the Latest Files list, and after a few endorsements, will quickly make it to the front page's Hottest Files slideshow, where it'll stay for a maximum of...25 days was it? By then it'll rack up more than a few endorsements, if it's worth it. By the time it's off the Hottest Files, it'll have enough to make it easy to find using the search methods you mentioned.

The more I think about it, the more I realize how genius the Hottest Files section is. XD

Know what would be mean? Mutiple search options. Like, being able to quickly search mods of the last week, month, two months and categorize it by what you want, especially endorsements. Being able to cut out the older stuff would be great for checking out newer mods, especially for folks that only come here even once in a while.

Pretty sure the advanced search already does that!
