journe
I'd like to start by noting that I do not expect an explanation, though if there is one, I'd love to know it. I first started playing Oblivion last year, after finally getting a comp decent enough to run it. I'd been playing Morrowind for ages, and immediately jumped into modding Oblivion. I never bothered with archive invalidation. I knew you were expected to do it, but I never thought about doing it. So, at this point, I wasn't doing it manually, didn't have OBMM set up to do it..didn't do it, period. Then I started playing FO3 sometime over the summer. I started modding it, starting using merged patches and eventually, archive invalidation. I'd never had any issues not using archive invalidation on Oblivion, not even the ones you were supposed to have. FO3 didn't work that way for me. Now I just reinstalled Oblivion, and suddenly, everything hates me unless I use archive invalidation. Sooo....what was different the first time? O.o I used a lot of mods that added or replaced textures before, never needed it, and now I suddenly do. It's not really a problem, it just makes me curious. Hickory
OBMM is set to perform Archive Redirection by default, so you almost certainly was using that form of invalidation, even though you hadn't set it up manually.
