How To Become A Modder

I agree the lack of support for people wanting to learn is sad, and "figuring it out" on your own is impossible, otherwise we'd all be making our own games and models. The fact is that blender, studio max, photoshop, nifskope are all incredibly technical and are difficult to operate for some.

Thats the whole point of this thread, to link to all we can to help make more modders, and thus more game content for players to enjoy!

Well I've always heard of blender and studio max, but I'm sure someone will answer you shortly. Try looking it up on google if you can convert a model from Autodesk to blender or Studio max, since those are the programs I've heard of most. Still someone far more wise will likely answer shortly.

Hi!

I like this thread and I think sticy it might be a good idea, but I also have an idea tho.

How about if there is a thread for people who want to learn making mods to meet each other.

When u are learning along with a partner then i think u can teach one another and compare notes about what issues u are facing.

There is always some tecnical difficulty that u will encounter!

I gived a lot of help to people with such an issue over just the last 2 weeks but it does take a lot of time to support people. I cant make a commitment about helping people in the future.

It has contributed just a number of threads on the forum with various problems that can be searched by another person. And i have also learned more stuff during the process.

I did originally teach myself how to make stuff with the help of tutorials modders have kindly written. But not just that, also by searching this forum for threads containing valuable information, and on other forums.

Also by looking at other mods and vanilla resources to see how they are designed.

But It would have been easier if i could have met someone who wanted to learn also so we can learn together!

Ok so I hope that there is a sticky thread on the various mod talking forum sections for beginning moders who want to meet each other and learn together. You can make a lot of progress over a short time!

Thank you for the nifskope tutorials, I made a mesh of my old hunting rifle because nobody has ever heard of it before but I couldn't seem to figure out how to take it from being a mesh to a complete .nif so with these tutorials I think I should be able to figure it out, though it will have to wait till later this week.

Your Welcome, and I just wanted to mention that if you can't find the answer you need here then please browse the Mod Troubleshooting forum, and if you get a good answer then post a link to it here so that we can help future readers.

I just got it going like 10 min ago so now I just need to clean it up and sight it in. But maybe you should post a link to the thread I started about the 1911, that thread basically shows the process of a weapon mod from request to model and finally into the game through nifskope.

Kudos for you, and I've already edited it in back on page one, since I'm trying to keep it all together so people don't have to hunt down links by reading every post.

If anyone else has read a good tutorial that helped you or could help others, and that isn't mentioned, please post so we can expand Fallout.

Side Note: Espceally since another Fallout won't come around for quite a few years likely, since they have to make a new game engine, and hopefully make it much more challenging and fun. (Also we waited over 10 years between Fo2 and Fallout 3/

Ok, little bit of info that I'll hand out here as it drove me nuts for 2 days till I figured it out. If you are making a creature into a companion this will be of interest to you. I was using the following tutorial:

[TUTz] Companion/Follower Tutorial

It worked up to the point that when I tried talking to my companion in game, it seemed that it wasn't following. Then I realized there was a 10 - 15 second wait for it to start. Turns out that the idle animation was preventing it from following right away. Now I know that the flag of "No Idle Anim" needs to be checked, and now so do you. So ya, if you are using an existing creature in the game and with the default animations, I'd suggest using that flag, at least for follow and wait, or you'll have constant delays while it's following or starting to follow.

Now that I have the base companion following me, off I head to Blender for some model modifications..... Wish me luck (and that my head doesn't explode).
