@ Sculpteur Excellent. Good luck.

@ Metoollhead In the NPC section of GECK you should find the characters. I would be kewl with modifying Stats of the original "in game characters" though.

Okay.. Let's say a mod I'm using makes it so I don't gain HP every lvl up. How can I tweak the mod to change that? Where can I learn about what the different stats mean?

I think it's difficult to explain it just now. As to me, you have to read all the tutoriel related to this first. Good luck.

Great thread deserves a sticky I think.

If I want to extract existing textures from the NV BSA files for a gun and modify them for a new gun of my own, just basically change the colours, really, what toolset would I need at a minimum? From what I gathered ...

GECK

GECK-PU

FONVEdit

NIFSkope

Blender

Do I need all these or only some or have I missed any?

Thanks much.

Missed the most important program of the retexturing process. You'll need something better then mspaint. I suggest GIMP, but if you have the cash to burn, Photoshop is excellent. And yes, You will need all those other programs. You may even want to get a hold of a little DDS converter program too.

Oh one more tool is FOMM. It will extract the existing texture to modify.

I'm glad this thread is helping everyone, I never thought it'd be such a big thread, anyways sometime tomarrow I hopefully plan to reorganize the whole thread so that people can find information easier, also I'll post a list of tutorials that we are missing but should be either made or found.

@Floatsup, I'm finally mail you about the mod tomarrow afternoon, I finally found the distillery in-game! And thanks for all the help on my threads! I'd give you kudos but I already have awhile back.

Cool yeah for a beginner its invaluable, I know how to change stats for existing items so my next challenge is to try to create a whole unique item with its own textures, thanks man!

first time poster, think this should be a sticky (not only is it interesting to read its useful too  )

I was wondering if there were any tutorials about texture sets? specifically retexturing existing buildings, there seems to be a lot about weapons but not about buildings. Good example would be changing a shack/house from sheet steel all rusted to perhaps stone work like (just for variety):
