Constructive criticism wanted

I've been trying to do a thread about this project for the near-year I've worked on it, and it always times out or crashes. So I'm not even going to describe it beyond this particular model lest I get jinxed again.

A Warg from lord of the rings, to be made into an npc and HOPEFULLY a mount. I have never modelled a quadruped before, nor do i have any experience in oblivion modding, and decent references were virtually impossible to find. So, while the head is still under and expecting a lot of work I would like as much insight as possible about what I can do with it. Especially the interior of the mouth as far as default open-ness and action when it comes to the teeth/gums and how they'd work between npc(wolf anims) or mount.

Blast it.

in terms of the body, it looks really good

the head, like you said, could use some work (though i can't even recall how exactly the Wargs look like, after several years of not seeing the movie.......)

if you want, i can send you a link to a mod (that isn't hosted here) that has a mount like this one (a 4 legged creature that isn't a horse, that is) so that you will be able to see how it is animated, and how it functions as a mount and such

this is some quality work, and i hope to see it completed some day :)

Well I'd imagined the mount would have a static face, but when it comes to the npc imagine the lunging attack the wolf does but with this coming at you:

My other referecnes were thus:

Kind of a modellers nightmare to work with really.

well, being someone with less than 0 modeling experience, i can't really say how much of a nightmare this is, but it does look like some serious work for you

correct me if i am wrong here

do you want to make a Warg with a rider, as one creature??

because i guess it is possible, but it won't be easy.......

best of luck to you

Nope. The warg and rider are to be separate, the warg is to accompany the npcs which are the focus of the mod actually. My sig kind of gives it all away.

Since this was my first animal body I had to do it half looking at the wolf body and then filling in the gaps with ym iamgination and using my own technique. This just hasn't gone easily for the head, which once that and the mouth are done I'll just stick on a planar layered mane and fur tufts where necessary.

Yeah I've followed some of their stuff on moddb. They can use any of my stuff with credit if they want when I'm done, since I'm actually making all the equipment for uruk hai to complement The Bloke's original race/npc/gear mod which only had a single npc using retextured legion armor. I've made 17 peices of gear(none texturedd and ingame yet), 5 npc classes plus a black uruk breed recolour and subsequent hero npcs. I don't remember if I told them i was doing it and they could or not, but they have already modelled their own Uruk-Hai face so maybe we could swap assets. *Shrug*

Okay, suggestions:

1. The eyes: They make it look sort of odd. Have you tried instead making them inside of the head with a slit to see them through? Eyelids, basically. I'm not sure if you need to animate them.

2. It needs teeth! It doesn't look quite vicious without them.

3. Is it possible to make the mouth a bit less.. Smiley? Try curving the mouth so it's more neutral or even downwards.

I'm sure it will look a ton better with a texture, though.
