Hi there,

 

First of all, pardon my english, it's not my mother-tongue.

 

To make it simple, I played Skyrim when it first came out, Vanilla style... Then time passed by, and I decided lately to come back into this great game, but with another 'touch' to it.

Being aware of the numerous 'mods' out there, I decided to take a thorough look at them, make a selection of the finest and go wild. 'Nuf said, now, I'm at 200 mods ! (and I didn't put all the mods I wanted to). After days of headaches and hard work, everything went fine : game is stable, really neat, great gameplay/graphics/UI experience, and so on.

Then I heard of ENB's, and tried, and tried, and tried again, to find one that would be not too performance hungry but still add to the game experience.

 

So, in a few words, I found true vision enb (performance settings) with the latest 0.266 enb was quite great. But adding with all the mods, it tends to lag (stutter should I say, meaning, it runs smoothly most of the time, then suddenly, le wild FPS drop rate appears).

 

What I'm asking here may be too much, but after two weeks of hard work and no-playing time, I'd like some help ; if anyone, ANYONE would care to help me improve :

 

- load order of my mods (LOOT is not ultimately the best solution, so I've read, and eventhough everything "seems" to work fine, at 200-ish mods, there surely must be a better, brained-solution)

- choice of my mods (I've not played skyrim but Vanilla... it's just NOW - in march 2015 - that I discovered mods - there SURELY are mods I've chosen that aren't a good choice, and other that should be)

- tweaking of my .ini files so that my game with enb is the best graphical my PC can take with at least 30FPS min. (don't care if I'm not at 60 steady)

 

I'd be soooooo glad !

My Skyrim's intial settings are set to ULTRA, I don't own the official DLC's (can't afford yet), only Vanilla + mods.

Skyrim version is uptodate (steam 1.9.32.0. :cool:, SKSE uptodate (1.7.1 rel 46)

I run NMM/SKSE to launch the game (not in admin mode, UAC activated)

 

And as I said Vanilla + allofmymods run at a steady 60 FPS, only when I activate an ENB (whichever, tried many), do I lose a boatload of FPS' !

 

Here you go. Of course I can answer any question you may ask in order to complete all these infos.

 

TL;DR : Vanilla runs nice on my PC, steady 60FPS, I recently added wow such mods many enb wow, then load times so loooong and (mostly exterior) wild FPS drops. Me wants better load order, good advice on which mods are to be kept, to be removed, to be added, and ini files better tweaks to improve FPS and load time with mods AND enb !

For your enblocal.ini under the Memory section, you could try some changes to;

 

ReservedMemorySizeMb=128 (give 256 or 512 a try)
VideoMemorySizeMb=2048 (Ram + VRAM -2048 So with your pc specs you could try 6144 or 8192) (Some ENB users try this formula VRAM -128)

EnableCompression=true ( I set this to false, helps my Skyrim play smoother, more fluid in movement.)

Also, under your Skyrim.ini [Grass] setting for the Skyrim Floral Overhual, Vurt recommends;

thanks for this first reply, giving a try to these changes.

As for the iMaxGrassTypesPerTexure, found in Vurt's Skyrim Flora Overhaul official website, it's the number of different types of grass (variety), so a lower value helps increase performance over quality. Trying to find the right balance, there is my problem ! :)

1.Your exterior fshadowdistance is too high for your gpu with enb running. Try amount between 3000.000 and 6000.0000.

2.Get performance monitor and see your vram usage. You might be getting too close to 2GB of vram (hitting max vram will cause stutter). It would be good idea to use 1k textures for exteriors.

3.Give Verdant Grass plugin a try. Download optional 512 res textures, put it above Flora Overhaul and set grass imingrasssize to 85+.

Note: SFO is heavy on performance, you might reconsider replacing it with Verdant + Simply Bigger Trees (+ some nice bark textures in 1k/2k) or Tamriel Reloaded Trees.

4.In case you have SMIM Full replace it with LITE.

5.I see you use Sounds of Skyrim. This mod was reported to be unstable and cause conflicts. The only stable audio overhaul I can recommend at this time is Audio Overhaul for Skyrim 2.

6.Skyrim Performance PLUS will disable/replace falling leaf animation (huge cpu/gpu hog) and is pretty much mandatory.

7.Find Decrease That Grass in Ruffled Feather Collection (performance mesh for thicket).

8.Add One Mountain to Rule them All (performance mod) + 1k/2k textures (Tamriel Reloaded Mountains with patch works). Install it on top of SMIM, if you're still using full version.

Ok, I'll do a nice revamp / reinstall of my mods, removing SoS and SFO, I also read RLO wasn't the plugin neither was CoT for weather overhaul effects, what do you advise me for improving weather and overall lighting effects (beside ENB). Another thing is load order, I really think LOOT doesn't make it right, eventhough it DOES work, there "seems" to be some kind of problems (I noticed rain doesn't fall when I hear storming weather and watch nice lightning effects, I also use hunterborn, but can't seem to make it work, maybe an untold incompatibility with iNeed and other wild animals and/or recipes mods... any suggestions here ?)

It depends on your Enb preset. Some Enbs require CoT+ELFX while other are incopatible with any kind of mods changing lightning or adding more types of weathers. You will have to either read description page or test it yourself.

Also you need patches, especialy for sound effects for some mods. For example AOS 2 has patches for Realistic Water 2 / CoT / Pure Weather / Expanded Weather, since those include region edits.

 

 

What should work with any Enb that does not require anything in particular:

 

Extended Weather Transition (adds only vanilla weather types to other regions)

AOS 2 (with patches)

True Storms (if you had hard time seeing rain, this will fix it)

Lightning during Thunder Storms by Minty

Relightning Skyrim

Darker Dungeons

 

IF your enb preset allows it you can add ELE -Enhanced Lightning for Enb (Full version from enb site + ELE Reailistic Colors plugin. Just without weather plugin, it tends to make RWT + Watercolor look weird during sunny weathers.)

Other option would be replacing Relightning Skyrim + Darker Dungeons with ELFX.

CoT / Pure Weather only for enbs supporting it / not causing weird lightning in combination.#

LOOT does work. Just watch out for mod compatibility issues (read above) and specific load order posted on main page of mods you intend to install.

Wow, BlackRoseofThorns (always made me laugh when calling someone by his/her nickname, especially when it's definitely not a normal name), you helped me really a lot !

 

So, what I did (thanks to you):

 

- uninstalled CoT / SoS / SFO and all comp. patches related to these (meaning re-downloaded and installed other mods that were compatibles with these)

- changed my .ini the way you advised

- installed AOS2 / Verdant / Simply Bigger Trees / Skyrim Perf. Plus / One Mountain to Rule Them All

- removed RLO and replaced with ELFX

- removed True Vision and replaced (again) with Real Vision for 0.266 (performance settings)

- did a LOOT / TESVedit cleaning / Wrye Bash

 

Now, I really have a great balance between performance (FPS are steady and for now no exterior stutter or sudden lag) and graphics (nice lighting, great changes to meshes / textures and overall great ambiance). You have responded to my enquiries in all manners possible, and for that I thank you !

 

Finally, I have one last question (eventhough it was in my very first questions in this topic), but I cannot even hope you'd take again some of your time and patience to help me on that case :

 

I've looked thoroughly in different sites (Steam workshop / G.E.M.S. / Nexus) all the mods, sorting with the most endorsed / downloaded, to take the "better" mods possible (lore-friendly for as much as possible) that would increase my game experience. As I already finished Skyrim a few years ago when it first came back, now I've got plenty of other reasons to come back to it nowadays, but if you could just look at all the mods I haven't got but you feel like I should take a closer look at, I'd be really glad ! I know it would require you some time looking at my list of mods (c.f. my first on this page) but that would be awesome and I don't know how could I thank you again ! ;) So... feel free to give me some more good advice on really great gameplay/content, lore-friendly, mods that I MUST have ;)

I have looked at your mod list again and there was few things there shouldn't be.

 

-UFO - It's outdated and causes problems with other mods. You won't be able to remove it completely from old save, so if you plan new playthrough do it now. Viable Option would be EFF or AFT. Don't use both at the same time.

-You use iNeed but I saw there RND esp, better double check that.

-Birds.esp - It's not good to mix more bird mods or skytest together. SkyBirds have more problenms than other mods to run nicely alongside each other.

-Dice Game - Didn't work for me. Most likely due to lack of update for new version of skyrim.

-Are you dead set on Horses for Followers + Horse Armors ? I haven't tested those, since Convenient Horses has everything that I need and never failed me.
