majikmonkee
This has been going on ever since I first started using any companion mods in my game (the first was Ariana Trudeax). It only occurs after fast travelling, and if not right away then after a couple fast travels. My usually smiling companions will have an unusually blank look on their faces, and if you talk to them, their mouth will move, but there appears to be a second body occupying the exact same space, and its features do not move, resulting in a very weird effect. Sometimes the twin bodies will be more obvious and the companion's skin looks twice as dark due to the overlapping skins. It's easy to fix by enabling then disabling the companion with the console, but i'd rather tackle the root of the problem if possible. Anyone else encounter this issue? It's gotten a little tiresome. It's kind of like the game is spawning two identical copies of the actor right on top of one another. TheSwedishPancake
I believe that this may simply be an issue with Oblivion itself. Why? Back when I played Vanilla Oblivion with no mods installed at all, this happened with Mazoga the Orc. More than a few times, I might add. Your problem does appear to be more chronic than mine was, though. Try moving the mods to the bottom of your load order. Otherwise, I think it's just an unfortunate engine problem. :/
majikmonkee
Seems like maybe the Oblivion engine must have some kind of issue with transporting companions. I never noticed it with vanilla, however, I also rarely spoke to the companions it makes you take with you during any of those quests (I used to avoid fast travel a lot more than I do now too). Not a game breaking bug or anything, more of an annoyance but it's not the end of the world.
chakaru11
No, this is not the fault of your game. Old companions like Arianna or older versions of Neeshka have this bug, it's well known and often discussed as the "double face bug". There is no fix for that for now, but there is something YOU can do ingame when it occurs: Make a save outside a building. Go inside the building. Load the savegame you made outside the building. Fixed. Because whenever a save needs to load a different cell, the double face bug is fixed, since the companion is reset. Another variation is to empty Ariana's inventory, then to click on her and to use the "resurrect" console command. That fixes the bug without the need of a save, bit if you do not empty her inventory, all the stuff in it is gone since she is reset to how she was when you met her. The last version of a somewhat ingame bugfix is to avoid fast travelling together with this companion. Travel to where you want to go and use a summon spell instead - assuming the companion has one. Luminiari
You CAN fix it in game with a lot less effort if you use the Unofficial Oblivion Patch. A Fix Double Face Bug spell is added to your spellbook; simply cast it on the offending NPC and viola! Fixed~
Naktis
Also you can use console commands to do this. With the console open click on the npc that has this bug and type in disable after npc disappears type in enable.
majikmonkee
Yeah I've been using the disable/enable fix for a while, it seems to be doing the trick. Glad to know my game isn't screwed up though.
