Character and NPC Floating on Uneven Ground - Help Me!

Has anyone had this problem and know how to resolve? I have read everything I can find on the subject and there doesn't seem to be any fix.

After a fresh install of Skyrim and reloading all mods I noticed my character was floating about 2 inches off the ground just inside the Whiterun Gate. At first I thought the issue was I'd been playing around with the XP32 Skeleton mod and animations so I removed all mods and the problem was still there. It also seems to affect NPCs.

Having tried everything I could think of I did a fresh isntall (no mods) and started a new game heading straight to Whiterun and found the problem was still there.

Is this a glitch that I just hadn't noticed before - is there someway to fix it? Now I've seen it, it's driving me mad and I now notice it in other places as well - usually where there is uneven ground.

I'll add some screen shots so you can see.

Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Suggestions >

  • confirm that your data folder doesnt have any loose files being loaded that are causing the issue.
  • make sure that your skeleton and body are compatible. could be an issue with the havok collision box on the player being positioned too low relative to the body mesh.
  • could be the ground collider is too high relative to it's visual mesh.
  • make sure you are not clipping in console (command is tcl)

If this is a fresh install, be sure that the only loose files in your Skyrim\Data\ folder are:

Interface

Strings

Videos

along with a small list of .bsa and .esm, and .esp...all with "Skyrim" in the names. Here is a screenshot of a clean data folder: http://imgur.com/AEqw9q6

That does look like an issue with ground collider, so that would be a mesh. Meshes are in the Skyrim\Data\ folder. If they are loose, its not a clean game. It would also be helpful to other users in their will to give support to include a list or screenshot of mods that were installed, in the case that loose files can be linked to a mod, and possibly fix the issue in future attempts, if there are loose files floating.

To Spleeter & Moto

Both very helpful suggestions and some things I haven't looked at yet.

Can I be clear that this issue only seems to occur on uneven terrain - I noticed last night also when climbing some sets of stairs but not all. On regular terrain and roads, streets and in houses there is no problem.

With regard mods - this was a completely fresh install tested with a new game file - no patches or updates. All game folders and directories were deleted from the previous game and the issue still occurs.

Assuming the issue is a collider or Havok issue - what is the best way to diagnose and fix the problem? I haven't yet had chance to read around the subject.

I'm going to attempt a clean install on a different machine with a more powerful graphics card tonight to see if the problem is still there.

I will post results with new screenshots when I can later.

Thanks for your help so far - this is very frustrating.

So... after many more hours of re installation and going back to an old save file on a machine with an old installation before I knew what a mod was.. I have concluded that as unbelievable as it seems, the issue has always been there and I just never noticed :(

Going to try buying the legendary version to see if by some fluke it goes away.

Thanks for all your help guys.. unfortunately nothing worked.
