Dead Money - Why Bethesda have made a big mistake.

Hey, something iv been thinking about ever since i first heard about you being able to shape new vegas before the game was even released. And it has turned out just how I expected.

By the sounds of it the expansion will i think be out side of new vegas... well in my opinion it has to be and heres why... I dont know about you but all i want to see in this expansion is the consequences of my actions in the main quest. If i chose to side with the legion i want to see how life has been changed for better or worse, same with the other factions.

The thing is i think this will be unlikely, the problem with the multiple path options is they are all so different threads and roads, so in the expansion they would have to do so much more work by making it compatible with every little choice you have made. Should be interesting how they deal with this, big task they have layed before them. Mabe they will knuckle down and cover the one of 4 paths you could of chose. But I just really dont see it happening :(

opinions?

well, from the little i know of Dead Money, it doesn't happen after the main quest (if it does, than it's a whole different matter)

the thing is, from how it sounds, it doesn't talk about life after what you have done

it is meant for added game play, not to give you another story

Broken Steel has, in a way, showed you what happened after the main quest, but the changes weren't so big, and you only had one way to finish the game (with a few small choices to make)

and the thing is, according to the FO3 Cannon, the purifier worked really fast, purifying all the water in less than two weeks (and it may be possible)

but the outcomes of the events of New Vegas can take years to fully show

basically, think of it like this

in New Vegas, you have planted a seed, the seed being your choices on who to aid, and how to end the game

you can't expect to know how the tree will be, before the seed has become a small plant, right??

it will take around 50 years (if i recall correctly the lines from the game) for the events of NV to really show the change in the Mojave wasteland

and since your character might not even survive all that time, it will be really hard to do such a thing

besides, since there are so many options on how to end the game, the project will be too large to handle, as far as i can tell

According to what I've read on Dead Money, its simply a side add-on, just like every DLC other than Broken Steel. Considering how buggy the game has been, expecting to see game-wide changes after the main quest I think is asking for too much. Also, in my play throughs, I wouldn't really have anything left to kill other than respawning cazadores and deathclaws.

BrokenSteel worked (well enough at least) because it focused on immediate events afterwards. The purifier tended to be a bit of a plot hole, Autumn surviving exposure, you dying in the vanilla game then somehow surviving... not being able to use radiation immune buddies to solve the problem....

While possible to show Legion on the strip or eliminating most NCR presence is feasible, as I said before, considering how many bugs were found in the vanilla game alone, that's just expecting too much.

these points are true

and i would like to suggest one other thing (which may be wrong, but may be right)

i think that the first DLC not having a PC version is to counter the effect of mods (since mods are only for the PC version, the xBox players should get something special, which does make sense)

now, if Obsidian and Bethesda were able to create this amazing DLC, that will tell the story of what happens after the main quest, do you really think that they wouldn't release it for all the consoles??

such a DLC sounds like a whole new game, and so they would probably try to maximize the people buying, and therefore it just wouldn't fit with the whole "special for xBox" concept

also, even after the game was patched, it still has some bugs, which they would probably be working on solving way before trying to make such a DLC

and a late release should build up the expectations, and make the game live longer

i think it worked very well with FO3, so why not do the same for NV??

By the sounds of it they want to make the current ending the definitive one , so the DLC will only be expanding the game side ways. Perhaps though it will be future mods that come to the rescue here and show how things may have turned out...

Sorry to say it but Dead Money does NOT expand the ending and make F:NV an open world game...

It is like "The Pitt" in a closed section and you can only leave the landmark after completing the DLC...

And it WILL be released for PC afterwards...

I believe they want the dlc to be tested by gamers and the reason for NOT providing the DLC for the PC version is to have a "true" impression about the DLC...

PC gamers are able to fix bugs and if they have a bugfixed DLC most of them are satisfied. XBOx gamers dont have such an option and give Obsidian and Bethesda a "real" feedback...

Pc gamers usually are not expected to give harsh answers...

But some of them are honest and say if a game or a DLC is disappointing....

I would think the main reason the DLC is on xbox and not pc first; is because of contracting. Console companys vie for exclusive rights to games and content to encourage people to buy the game for their system. After all, if you can get the "same" game for pc, playstation, and xbox, but the xbox version comes with more content, why wouldnt you buy it for your xbox over all others? Its the same tactics used with the pre order packs. It also helps to drum up sells for those who cant wait for it to come to their own system and want to play the DLC now, thus going out and buying a 2nd copy of the game just to buy the DLC.

I don't think I could accurately state my view on the DLC being 360-exclusive for a while without using numerous expletives, and the word "money" a few too many times. That said, the whole DLC thing is ridiculous, since there are already mods out that are better than pretty much anything Obs could come up with, outside of an actual expansion, and not just a side-quest.
