Corithalion looks at Kyrykki

"Do it carefully, and don't take anything. If you recall, the guard said something about looting dead bodies being the same as stealing from live ones. I wouldn't be totally surprised if this area were being somehow watched. I may still just be a little jumpy, but whatever did this must have gotten what they wanted - what possibly could have scared them?"

"We need to check for any evidence of the attackers that might be destroyed by our walking around here. There's no sign of any of the attackers' bodies. Can anyone see any signs of which direction they went?"

He carefully walks well around the bodies, looking for traces that someone else has passed to the east recently.

To Kyrykki:

Fighting to keep your breakfast from coming back up, you inspect the bodies carefully. The cause of death is clear, sword or axe strikes, and judging by the depth of the wounds, from a fairly strong attacker. Your sacrifice finally pays off when you find a few sheets of paper in a well hidden pocket in the third body's clothing. Though the writing on it is in a language you do not understand, you notice what appears to be a sketch of some kind of dwemer artifact.

To Corithalion:

The only trace of the attackers you see is a few footprints in the area, disappearing off to the north a short distance away. Anything else that might have been left behind has either been removed or faded with time. But what you do notice when your search brings you back to the road is a group of three people approaching from direction of Suran. The distance makes it impossible to get a clear identification, but you see the reflection of sunlight off metal armor. You guess that they are about 15 minuites away.

<ooc: That's my last post until much later today. Usual lack of sleep + 6am work on 3d art contest means I'm absolutely dead. Talk to each other or something for now, I'll get on later tonight and post the next events.>

Reylas makes a face at Kyrykki. "I meant I have some skills in the ways of the woods and scouting, not looting the dead. It might be best if we prepare for trouble now, rather than standing around and arguing.. I'll take up a position off the road with my bow, in case they're not as friendly as we hope."

With that, Reylas swiftly leaps over the edge of the road, and covers himself in some foliage next to a tree. Using his native skills, he seems to become part of the tree's shadow, invisible to all but the keenest eye. Drawing his bonemold longbow, he strings an arrow to it, and tracks the foreign party as they approach. As they begin to approach striking range, Reylas puts away the bonemold longbow, and calls to mind the incantation for a spell. Within seconds, he now has what seems a much more deadly Daedric longbow in his hands.

"The sunlight glinting off their armor will provide for very nice targets," Reylas thinks to himself.

Looting the dead or not, Kyrykki swiftly pockets the papers he has found. He joins the others.

"I have a clue but it is written in a language I do not know. We need to get this back to - whoever it was that sent us. I suppose we need to see what these three want first. It looks as if they are following us. I'd rather avoid trouble if I can. Who is the most persuasive talker here?"

He turns to look at Khar-tul.

"I believe that might be you."

To All Characters:

As the three men get closer, you notice that they are wearing the full armor and uniform of the Imperial Legion. Their swords are still at their side, and their actions suggest that this is a routine patrol, not an immediate attack. Now within a few yards of you, the leader yells to you, anger in his voice. "Hey! What are you doing over there?" He walks over to the dead bodies. "You do know Imperial law, right? Looting's an executable crime you know." He looks around, then continues more calmly. "But if you're just here to look, get moving. There's nothing of interest here, just a random murder and robbery. Idiots these days think that just since Dagoth Ur's gone that its perfectly safe to go wandering around at night. I know its not a pretty sight, but that's reality for you. Why don't you just head back to town and go drink away the bad memories..." He looks around to each of you, making sure you have heard and understood, then stands looking expectingly for you to obey.

Heartily relieved Kyrykki nods to the others and starts back towards Suran.

"Drinks are on me!" He perhaps foolishly says.

"Even you, Reylas, when you are willing to stop hiding from possible danger."

He does not wait for the wood elf to reply.
