ArchMageMatt
So, when Loghain is defeated Riordan says that he can make Loghain a Gray Warden. I refused, (Or actually, Alistair refused for me) and the offer is gone. ...Wait! So what happened to the materials needed for Loghain's joining? Surely your companions, Sten, Oghren, Morrigan, Leliana, even, could have became a Gray Warden! And if you didn't have those characters, there were still some you met on the road: Sir Perth, Teagan, Kardol, Zathrian, Lanaya, Cullen, Greagoir, even Swiftrunner! I'm sure another Gray Warden was needed there, so why did everyone in the world think Loghain was the only person who could become a GW?
Thandal
Well, I don't think anyone thought there could BE another Joining until Riordan pops up and says something. No one else in Ferelden knows exactly what's needed or how to perform the Cerermony. Even Big Al seems a bit clueless... (Oh wait. He's always like that . ) But when the notion is raised, I agree with you. There are choices for that role I like a whole lot better than him! ell46
Couldn't agree more, it's just BW or D Gaider didn't want that to happen, God forbid we could have a happy ending when they can have people sitting here depressed, sad, miserable, angry and/or in tears. I've only recently come to the conclusion that the whole story is in fact extremely depressing, in my opinion anyway. Thank heavens for modders and the Nexus forums or I would have sent it to the bin after my first play through, which I didn't actually finish until a few months ago. RustyBlade
Perhaps it was easier to risk Loghain's life; there is a chance of failure (death.) Would you really want to risk one of your favorite companions?
ell46
I was reading something the other night and I don't know if it was wishful thinking on the writers part or what, but is it true that you can make Alistair King AND make Loghain a warden AND Alistair doesn't run off into the sunset? RustyBlade
Only if you cheat :whistling: (Thandal can give you tips...)
Thandal
It was in response to Ell's request that I first discovered the "Resurrect the Blackguard" work-around. I know that if he is sufficiently "hardened" Alistair won't go off to become a drunken exile even if you allow Loghain to become a Warden. Haven't tried (since I don't EVER let Loghain live after the Landsmeet) but I guess it MIGHT be possible to get Big Al sufficiently... callused to stick around as King. But if I would bet a considerable amount that he leaves your Party forever! And you obviously can't be playing to have Anora on the Throne in this scenario, even as Co-Monarch. lorelai2009
@ell46, yes, you can have Alistair marry Anora and spare Loghain(he will join the Wardens and your party in Alistair's place) you have to: 1. Harden Alistair after his personal quest2. Propose to Anora that she marry Alistair(when in Arl of Redcliffe's estate) and persuade Alistair to do it.3. Remind them again at the Landsmeet(when you choose to conscript Loghain) that they are supposed to get married.
Thandal
Thx, Lorelai! Didn't know you can get the pair of them on the Throne even if Daddy is allowed to live (for a while, anyway.) I'm guesing that Alistair is still pretty steamed and will no longer accompany you if you go this route! I usually go for the "Political Marriage" solution myself as well, since I have NO interest in having my Warden rule Ferelden in any capacity and that gets me Anora's support at the Landsmeet. But as I said, letting Loghain live is never an option for me!

If he became a GW that will improve relations between the people and the GW after 200 years of bad relations. Plus he is a skilled general and his expertise are important for the GW, considering that they are a militarized order. Everyone else have more or less chance of dying or not excepting the role, except for Oghren (you need to see Awakening to find out)
