Nexus hacking

Bal- I'm afraid that we're gonna have to play like the government on this one and simply state "We are not at this time going to release information about those we suspect to be involved".

It is however, a good theory. As are some of the others that have been stated.

From what Bben stated it sounds as tho a new security hole has been discovered, and that all the little brats are now out and about trying it out. Tho yeah... there are those that have grudges against this site in particular.

I have been spammed to oblivion since this site got hacked! Ive gotten so many offers to buy cialis and viagra, that the amount of pills (should Ive opted to buy) would have been enough to "raise" a zombie without using necromancy!!

Since you have managed to track the little scamp back to his lair, I say: Give it to him!!! Send him back to the realm of Oblivion, and steal his sigil stone! (Tell on him and make his mum take his internet connection away!)

Getting spammed? Get a new email from Gmail or Yahoo and update your profile to use that one from now on...problem solved.

Please stop giving this hacker a badge of honor by saying how much spam you are getting. You are basically re-affirming to him that he did a great job. Get it?

for the guy that says get a new email, we do not want to make a new email adress time and again..

we want to punish script kiddies..hehehe..

And how is posting here going to accomplish that? It only re-affirms what he did.

Most email clients have a spam filter. I would never have known about these if it hadn't been posted here. BTW, I use Gmail and Hotmail - both filter this kind of spam.

Just receiving some extra spam mail is not a serious problem. All they need for that is your user name - not your password. If they did get your password, you will start hearing from friends that You were the one sending the spam. And you may be banned from some sites for sending spam.

Gawker - another site unaffiliated with the Nexus that has the same problem has posted a way to see if your password was compromised in their database. It may work in the Nexus also.

  • Go here and put in you email address in the input field. Click convert to md5.
  • In the fusion table (link below) click "Show Options" and filter by MD5. Copy yours into the field on the right.
  • Click apply, if a result shows up it means your pwd has been compromised.

"..I use Gmail and Hotmail - both filter this kind of spam."

Yes, I use those and haven't noticed any increase in spam, which is minimal anyhow. I only use webmail and don't use an email client, or maintain an address book on the PC.

I also use (on webmail) a filter that puts anything where the subject line ends with a "!" into a separate folder for later inspection. Spammers (and quasi-spam marketing time-wasters) love those exclamation marks, and doing that helps considerably to declutter the inbox.
