majikmonkee
Normally, I'm a good law abiding citizen of Tamriel, but like everyone else, I got a little bored the other day, put on the Gray Fox cowl, and zapped a guard with the "explosive combustion" spell from Deadly Reflex. The results were as you would expect, and folks complained about the bloody mess in the street for a bit and days later, it was gone. However, afterward, I was passing along the same street, and found two mostly naked clones of the original dead guard standing around talking like guards, and an armor clad third clone was doing the rounds elsewhere. Did the game respawn the guard once for every seperate body segment? Anyone else experience this? Edited December 10, 2010 by majikmonkee
MidbossVyers
That happened with the Cheydinhal Chapel Guards. I wrote about it in this thread: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/252990-cheydinhal-guards-can-reproduce-asexually but NO ONE answered. majikmonkee
Hmm. Glad to know I'm not alone. I used "disable" on the clones and no problems so far. I noticed each body part is its own unique actor, so technically, the original remains unaffected by this. It's definitely weird.
Smooth613
It happens sometimes with guards. It's best to try your best not to kill them with DR Critical hits to avoid this. Otherwise there is a really good chance a naked clone respawns too. I've had to use disable twice so far and haven't noticed any ill effects. However I tend to try and avoid it if at all possible, even if this mean returning to an earlier save. So in the end the best advice, don't kill guards with criticals, which can be challenging at times. Edited December 10, 2010 by Smooth613
majikmonkee
I try to avoid landing the killing blow on guards whenever possible, I try to avoid the bounty. I'll normally beat them to near dead then let a wild animal finish the job. This was my first DR related guard death.
MidbossVyers
I usually try not to fight guards, but the Chapel guard and the Imperial Library guards attack you on sight.
SavageArtistry
This is in no way a useful comment, but I have to say that I giggle a little every time I see the title of this thread. Guess it's my imagination running away with me.

That can lead to nothing good.
majikmonkee
Okay...it's official...destroying any NPC who respawns an instance of the same NPC later down the road is a BAD idea! BAD BAD! Below is the horror that doing this has brought upon me. Yes, that's the adoring fan (I tweaked his face slightly in the CS so he would piss me off less but it didn't work very well). Now I'm stuck with fans x 3, and one was bad enough!http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f162/majikmonkee1975/trifans.jpg Edited December 11, 2010 by majikmonkee
Deleted1848331User
Toss em off Dive Rock, and when they die, disable them :P I like cutting guards in half. The reason they respawn is because they ARE a whole body, but as two actors, with invisible clothing so you can't see the part you cut off or the rest of the body from what you cut off. Fascinating, how things work, eh?
