How not to fail?

1 - No steam / internet activation whatsoever

2 - No dumbing down at all. Screw console kiddies.

3 - Variations in the voice acting so people aren't saying the same thing at the start right through the finish

4 - A non definitive ending would be nice (Or keep it like NV, in that it tells you when the final battle will start)

5 - Harsh and unexpected weather effects, like blizzards, to keep the player on their toes

6 - Improved distance textures, or at least the option for this for people with epic PC's

7 - A large choice web with differing endings on the path you take

8 - No leveling (I want to get my ass kicked if I walk into a large camp at level 1. Helps the realism)

9 - A hunger / thirst / sleep system

10 - Absolutely no porting from a console. No getting lazy here Bethesda

11 - Crossbows. Make the game epic yeah?

To finish off, as I'm not really sure if I covered this or not, No internet connection required.

Amen! to all of this you said here.

+ unconsciousness - as an option with blunt weapon Make a tons of new quest posebilities.... Arena will be nice too (I think about fighting pits like i Conan! that will be great fun!)

I must say that I agree with the comments regarding the comparisons between skyrim and oblivion. I never played morrowind, after having run through oblivion un-modded and then modded it up, it seemed to me to be a step backwards to play morrowind.

But, yes guys I agree, the combat is poor, enemies should react accordingly to the threat before them, if you brain 2 of them the other 2 should either gang up visciuosly or better still RUN...!!! if your an axe weilding heavy armoured maniac like me, I aint taking prisoners so leave now....!

to me, oblivion was quite beautiful, skyrim is graphically amazing (apart from the snowy areas on my screen which seem incredibly flat and dull).

you should also be able to run down your opponents whilst on hoursback, you could do that in `two worlds', what about lances to run your foot oponnents through or an axe blade in the head from above.....lacking somewhat.

I know that gamers luv to see pretty sparkly armour, but as a history buff and realist i would like to see the armour dented, rusty and in need of a polish at an armourers or give it to a blacksmith to knock the dents out and replace buckles that hold it together for a price (but thats just me)

the storylines are not as immersive as oblivion and yes i agree, its very `walkthrough' assisted.

I like the werewolf touch, the vamps in oblivion were quite scary and you could contract vampirism from them after attacking just 2 or 3 of them, I have cleared whole caves / towers in skyrim, braining them close up with no vampisitic consequences. i think the vamps should have been moddelled to be much nastier and dangerous than was depicted in oblivion

thats my twopenneth..!

I agree with most (if not all) points..

but Bethesda, as any other company, want $$$, not a satisfied customer. They COULD do insane s*** that would make the game totally awesome, but why would they give us more than mere minimum to go out and buy the game?

I mean, Oblivion was, in many ways, better than Skyrim. Quests were longer and more entertaining. Less gamebreaking bugs (aka Bethesda hates NVIDIA users). etc.

- textures in whole game looks AWFUL. They rely on modders to do the work for them, so most items look like if they had textures made in MS Paint with spray tool. I don't say whole world needs HD incredibly epic textures that would slow the game like hell, but at least characters, armor and weapons SHOULD.

- lack of the "fantasy world" feeling - the whole world must be frozen in time, since the only damn discovery made in Tamriel is LANTERN instead of TORCH. Noone have made crossbows. Noone have made single-shot pistols.

- hell, the world seems to desintegrate instead of progressing:

1. less weapon types - no more shortsword/longsword, etc

2. less spells - obviously, after Mages guild was disbanded, few hundred spells were forgotten, even those VERY insteresting, like Chameleon, conjure armor etc

3. spell damage is EQUAL, no more damage increases.. Novice's Fireball is exactly as strong as Archmage's, no matter the difference in skill. The only thing you can progress at is spamming it. Novice will have mana to cast max 1 fireball, while Archmage could cast 30 of them

4. gymnastics has been obviously banned - you cannot learn to run faster, you cannot learn to jump higher, you cannot even dodge an attack
