resurr3ction
Hi, I would like to somehow solve the problems UOP (Unofficial Oblivion Patch) is giving me. I recently reinstalled Oblivion using Francesco's (instead of my usual OOO setup) and the problem is the very same thing - crashes on death of the actor (enemies). First time I encountered this behaviour was long time ago on OOO configuration and after disabling/enabling all of the mods all what remained was the UOP... Disabling it and enabling all other mods made the game run much better and without crashes (but for usual very occasional good 'ol Oblivion random CTD). I first blamed the configuration I chose that it simply worked badly with the UOP but recent development made me change this opinion. Simply because a) the mods I used are largely different from previous setup b) I started to use wrye bash with BOSS to eliminate conflicts in installation and load-order c) again narrowing down the problem disabling various mods ended up with UOP to blame. I use UO Supplementary but that made no difference (didn't use that on the old setup and the problem was the exact same). I tried really anything from game settings, ini tweaks, compatibility mods, various obse based crash prevention dlls etc. No success. Again I did whole (and painful) enabling/disabling procedure with rebuilding the patch everytime. Only to remember at one point I did experience it before and in mid of the process I tried removing UOP. Voila, problem solved. This time however I even figured out what seemed to cause the trouble - (actors) death items - in the bashed patch. Removing that option from bashed patch somewhat helped but it didn't solve the problem entirely (unlike removing UOP altogether). So what am I after? The solution obviously how to use UOP with somewhat heavily modded game and not crashing in every fight because of it. I am clueless as how could I solve this other than just not using unofficial patch(es). I am no newbie in this, grasped wrye bash fine and solved several problems I had already but this one seems to be too tough. Any ideas? Thanks! PS. Hickory
The UOP has had over three quarters of a million downloads from the Nexus. With that many users, you can bet your shirt that it is not your problem. What I can tell you is that your graphic card (HD3870 512mb), while satisfying the minimum requirements, is not really up to the task of all those graphic-hungry mods in Oblivion. You really need a newer card, and preferably one with 1GB memory.
Smooth613
This just doesn't make sense. I have a hard time believing it's the UOP causing this. Yes I read your post and your testing procedure. However if having the UOP's in a heavily modded configuration caused CTD's upon the death of enemies with any consistency this issue would be getting reported by the thousands. I mean basically everyone uses the UOPs with their game. And just think of the many thousands of different mod configurations out there that include the UOP. If this was caused mainly by the UOP Arthmoor and the forums would be flooded with complaints of how the UOP causes crashes upon killing your foes. However this is not the case so something else is going on. It's just not logical to think that you are the only one with this problem which is claimed to be caused by UOP. If this is true you really are that 1 in a million, but I doubt it. Here is what I suggest. You do a completely fresh installation of nothing but Oblivion and the UOPs. Do you crash then when killing enemies? If no then your problem is elsewhere, obviously. If you can consistantly reproduce the crash with only the UOPs enabled then we have a different story and need to investigate further. However I seriously doubt this will happen. You should add mods one by one after the UOPs and test thoroughly until the problem reoccurs. It's very likely then the last mod you added is either causing the problem or conflicting in some way. At this point we'd need a full Load Order and the last mod added, which would be the suspicious mod. At this point you could look into your mods deeper via TES4:Edit to see what may be conflicting that would potentially cause this issue you describe. Or it may not be related to one mod specifically since you report similar problems on at least two different configurations. So it's possible you are just overloading your system with too many demanding mods or you're crossing that magical 255 ESP/ESM limit. Which will cause all kinds of weird issues. Edit: Looks like Hickory chimed in while I was typing this up, and basically said the same thing in less words. Edited December 19, 2010 by Smooth613

I am no newbie in this, grasped wrye bash fine and solved several problems I had already but this one seems to be too tough. Any ideas? I have also had problems with UOP causing crashes. In my case, it was with only a single character - one of the two that played the Vanilla game all the way through, explored everywhere, opened every door, etc. Then I added the DLC mods (but not Shivering Isles). Then I started adding other, small scale mods. Finally I added UOP, and started getting consistent crashes (for this one character but not for the others) - removing UOP fixed it. I shrugged and removed it because it wasn't a critical mod to me - I'd already played out all the vanilla quests just fine. Fast forward to today through mod shuffling, mod cleaning, reloading an operating system, etc and I still have those old characters - still play them too. Now I have UOP in my load order as well and things are just fine. I don't know... I suspect that one of the mods that I had at the time expected one of those fixes added by UOP to not have been in place, but I was never able to narrow it down to a mod pair with UOP being one and ??? being the other. Perhaps I've cleaned the offending mod, or dropped it because I found something I like better. I think the characters that did not have a problem for me had not done whatever the key trigger was for me and so did not have a memory of a "bugged" item or door in the save game that the UOP now insisted was changed (fixed). Wish I had something that I could suggest for you...

Wish I had something that I could suggest for you... Actually thanks! I had this idea too about some other mod expecting something not fixed (changed) by UOP. Unfortunately bashed patch doesn't help it and the event when it occurs (every other death of actor) points to some candidates now. I just wasn't sure if it was sensible idea thinking mods are not based on UOP. For other games unofficial patches are usually the base for every mod that follows... Anyway, now I suspect: Francesco's (leveled/loot lists upon death)Realistic Force/Physics (deals with death momentum directly; I even used it in previous config... hm)Realistic leveling (delays recalculation after combat ends = death of actor) Will check back if it was one of these. And that it's interaction with other mod was hopefully obvious but since my testing turned futile I wanted to ask if there is not some less known UOP incompatibility... ... I am runnign 68 plugins with some 30 disabled and merged in bashed patch. I believe I am nowhere near the limit. As for the procedure I am aware of it and it is the last resort. Not sure I would be able to pull it through should it come to that as it's time consuming and I rather spend hours of free time playing rather than bug-hunting... but yeah
resurr3ction
Just for the record I have actually gone through this procedure: 1) complete reinstall of Oblivion (+SI) (+official patch) using this: http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=240- the clean patched game was stable and played no problem 2) installed OBSE (+plugins) and other utilities (OBMM, Wrye Bash, BOSS) and DLCs and one mod: Streamline- no problem (game still stable) 3) installed only unofficial patches (UOP, USIP, UOMP, Supplementals)- no problem (game still stable) 4) started to add mods one-by-one using Bashed patch (never two at once) a - COBL: CTD on actors death -> tried disabling Bashed patch (no change) -> disabling COBL solved the problem -> disabling UOP (etc.) and enabling COBL solved the problemb - Francesco's: CTD on actors death and the rest of procedure same as COBLc - tried NOT using Supplementals -> somewhat greater stability but still CTD on actor's death 5) tried ONLY essential mods for me (Realistic Leveling, Francesco's, Progress, Stealth Overhaul, Supreme Magicka) with unofficial patches- CTD on actor's death 6) tried many combinations with unofficial patches- light mods usually didn't have impact (i.e. Realistic Leveling)- bigger mods caused the CTD on actor's death: COBL, Francesco's... 7) radically I disabled unofficial patches and added all my mods I wanted in- game worked like a charm I have no idea what the problem actually might be. The culprit IS unofficial patch(es) interacting with other mods (for me it's almost any other mod) on my system but what exactly it is that makes them incompatible with further modded game I am unable to identify. Even the one-by-one procedure did not reveal one candidate but many and I really cannot play Oblivion with vanilla level scaling so it's clear choice between Fran's and unofficial patches... I do realize there is a million people using unofficial patches without problems but it seems I am that unlucky one for whom it simply doesn't work properly. The thing is even stranger because even though it seems like "overloading" the system my testing revealed that it's very much unrelated to that as configuration with 4 mods (unofficial patches + COBL or Fran's or All Natural or ...) is as buggy as 60+ mods configuration if it includes unofficial patches. And on the contrary configuration of 80+ mods without unofficial patches works like a charm. You can see I really tried hard to be able to use unofficial patches but I am just about giving up to finally be able to play the game. But if you can think of anything that I could try yet feel free to suggest! Thanks!
Smooth613
Like I mentioned before, but doubted, I guess you really are that one in a million. Something unique to your setup/configuration is resulting in this problem, has to be. As we've all agreed, too many people use the UOP's, in combination with the other mods you've listed, for this to be specific to the UOP or that combination of mods. Definitely a weird one. You may want to mention this in the Official UOP Thread on the BethSoft Forums to see if anyone has any further advice. Good luck.
bben46
Disabling a mod (removing the x in the box) does not remove the mod. The mod is still loaded when you start the game, it is just not active in the game. To actually remove it you must remove the mod esp or esm from your data folder, then go in and manually remove all traces of it from the sub folders such as textures and meshes. This can be time consuming and it can be easy to miss something such as a texture only mod that doesn't include an esp at all. Fortunately, there is a way to do this automatically - but to have it work the mod MUST have been installed as either an OMOD through OBMM or using Bain from Wrye Bash. Both of these will completely remove every part of a mod that they installed. AND allow you to instantly reinstall it later. Most of the time, a complete reinstall isn't even needed to remove all mods from a game and start over reinstalling your mods without losing any save games. Here is the link on how to revert to a vanilla (no mods installed) data folder: http://www.tesnexus.com/articles/article.php?id=340 After reverting the game to vanilla, use either OMODs or Bain (pick one and stick with it) to reinstall the mods from the original archive (zipped file) that I hope you kept as a backup. Or re download (save that zipped file) and reinstall.

Really, I am not a newbie (period). Enabling/disabling mods mean for me install/uninstall, boss and bash (plus configure install archive, ini or whatever if needed). Doing the whole procedure as you suggested for the third time (since I did it twice already - see OP and my last post) seem pointless to me. In fact should Bethesda implemented the log system this could be solved instantly (knowing what is the problem). Instead everyone is left blind guessing, assuming and trial and erroring to actual oblivion... Nor obse log or other plugin's logs show anything useful about this problem or why it crashes on actor's death. Thanks for the reply anyway. :-) Like I mentioned before, but doubted, I guess you really are that one in a million. Yeah, lucky me. :-) I will mayhaps post in there but I doubt it would accomplish much. But since one never knows I may give it a try.
