Lishca
Hey guys! I'm completely new to modding, in fact, I downloaded TES construction set four hours ago. Sure, I'm not that noob, I've already tried out some stuff, and looked at some tutorials. My question is; is it possible to change a npc? I mean, can you change the face? -In the construction set? You see, I've downloaded a companion from the nexus site, and I'm not quite happy with the way she looks in my game. I wish she could have bigger eyes, or smaller nose or whatever. You know. When I first started trying this out on the construction set, I opened the 'data', I chose the 'Oblivion master file', 'CM companions' and the mod where the companion was included in. I searched the alternatives but I couldn't find her anywhere. It is possible right? Is there a smarter way to do it? I really want to know, since I like this companion a lot. Please help me. I thank you for all response. Edited December 19, 2010 by Lishca
WastelandAssassin
yes, it is possible to do this you need to open the file that has the companion in the CSthen you need to find the NPC in the Object Window (Actors -> NPC -> the race)when you have found the NPC you want to edit, right click on it, and choose Editthen go to the Face Advanced tab, which has all the options of the face generator you get in the gameso just change whatever you want through there, save, and enjoy
majikmonkee
The name might be in there different than you expect. for example, when I was looking for Ariana Trudeaux in the CS she was in there as "compari", and a companion I use named Kat from HOD was in there as "raven" of all things. Maybe try looking again.
WastelandAssassin
there is one useful piece of advice i forgotwhen you try to find the NPC, look at the Name columnit should have the name of the NPC in-game, so it should be the easiest way to find the correct NPC you are looking for
SandsOfTime404
Wasn't there a mod or something that gave you a spell that could be cast at the NPC to change their looks? I've never used it but could have sworn I'd seen something to that effect around here.
Lishca
Thank you very much for all the help, and the quick replies! She was named something else, and I had to mark another plug-in... Stupid me  Anyway, I managed to do what I wanted. Thank you :D Btw, that spell you talked about, SandsOfTime404, sounds interesting. I will try to look it up. Lishca
Just one more problem, a very noobish one; how do I save her now? I have edited her face in CS and clicked OK, but when I go back in game, she looks the same as before. What should I click if 'ok' isn't right? Edit: I found out how to save. Now I have an ESP. file, and I don't know what to do. I have the original file, and I have the one I made: [x]companion.esp[x]testCS1.esp Thing is that the new esp. (testCS1), the one i edited, does not show. Why doesn't they work together? Why wasn't the editing I did in CS saved in Companion.esp? When I go check ingame, the companion looks like she always have done. What can I do to make the changes complete? Please, hope for response. WastelandAssassin
well, have you saved the changes?? if you have set the correct file as active, then you should have saved it where it is supposed to beif you haven't set any file as active, then when saving, it would ask you to make a new plugin whatever the case, just make sure that you saved, and activate the plugin that has the new face on (in case you didn't activate it)

I have finally started to understand this. I have activated and all that, but she still doesn't changes. I imagine that the editing I did was saved on her plugin. --- on the other hand, I did get a message when I tried to save the edited plugin. This is what it says:"unable to complete operation due to failure removing previous file. Temp file remains." I didn't think about it at first, but I see now that this might be my problem? What can I do about it? Edited December 21, 2010 by Lishca
WastelandAssassin
what have you done? have you made the companion.esp as active, or made a new plugin??to me it sounds like you tried to make a new plugin, and named it exactly like the original (companion.esp) i don't recall ever seeing such a message, but this is my guess about it try making companion.esp the active file, and do some minor changes to the NPC you wanted, then save and check it in the gameif all works well, than the changes will now show, and the NPC will still work properlythen you can go into the CS again, make that file active again, and this time modify the NPC as you please one point, howeveryou should probably make a back-up of the companion, esp file, because if something doesn't go well, you could always go back to the original working file another option, is to make a new file with the changesfor this to work well, you would probably need to allow the CS to load multiple master filesif the change is needed, i think you need to go to My Documents -> My Games -> Oblivioninside this folder, open the ConstructionSet.ini, and change the following line bAllowMultipleEditors=0 change the value from 0 to 1 then just make the changes you want to the NPC, save as a new file, and it should be working properly if you still have any problem, i can try to helpjust write whatever problem you are experiencing, and i'll do my best to help you out Edited December 21, 2010 by WastelandAssassin
