scifi112233
I just got oblivion and i love using nexus for my other game mods. I was wondering is anyone had a few or more mods they would recommend getting for oblivion. Also any recommendations on what to do or where to go. LFact
If you're really new to Oblivion, grab Unofficial Oblivion Patch(and USIP and UOMP if you have Shivering Isles and any of Official DLCs as well), play the game for a while. Then decide what to get.
yayo1942
[First of all: English is not my main, sorry if I fail to make myself clear about something!] Hi there!I'm new around here too, but I guess I can help you a little bit :) To get started download Oblivion Mod Manager, this utility will help you to set the loading order of your mods, load OMODs (packages for easier install-uninstall) and much more things. Then download Better Oblivion Sorting Software (BOSS), this one orders your mods and informs you of any conflict or update you should do.Download the many-bugs-fixer Unofficial Oblivion Patch to solve lots of bugs and problems at once. Finally, you can go to the Advanced Search Page (as you may know) to set what kind of mod you're looking for. (Mounts, Immersion, Gameplay, etc.) Now, I can only recommend you what I think has been the best for me: Deadly Reflex: Adds new moves, and special moves that let you cut your opponents in half with all the bloody mess that it implies! Also, let's you select if you want to make battles a bit harder having to time your blocks (optional) and many more things ! (Download V5, since 6 is still in BETA)DarNified UI: Changes the UI of the game making it more PC-like. Let's you choose the kind of letter you want, and create your very own bars to meassure what you want.Dude Wheres My Horse FINAL: Simple but very practical mod. Let's you know where your last-mounted horse is. Simple and useful as that!To solve the issue that the actual game jump sucks, use either Stylish Jump or Amazing Jump.DMC Stylish Animation Replacer: Change the way your character battles to make it look more japanese game-ish.And finally depending on your tastes you can change how your character looks like. I'm actually using: HG EyeCandy Body: Nice body replacer used for most mods out there. At least the ones I like!XEO 5: Makes everyone look way prettier than before. Some may find this mod too Anime-ish. I love it <3 Then is up to you, use the search option, and prepare to spend many hours modding this game. Don't forget this is only a guide from a newbie! not a MUST list.Good luck with everything! :) Edited December 20, 2010 by yayo1942
WeissYohji
yayo1942 said it well: You at least need OBMM, BOSS, and the unofficial patches. But you also need Oblivion Script Extender if you're going to run Deadly Reflex. (There's lots of other mods that need OBSE to run properly.) There's also Wrye Bash, but that's for more advanced users. Now, here's some mods I highly recommend:--Advanced Magecraft: Lets you enchant items and make spells on the spot. I find this very useful whenever I don't have an enchanting or spellmaking altar readily available. It also lets you enchant arrows, learn spells from scrolls, clone and recycle items, and do other fun things that vanilla magecraft doesn't let you do.--Alchemy Advanced: Overhauls the alchemy system by letting you use potions as ingredients, brew in batches, set the duration of potion and poison effects, and gives you two new types of alchemical apparatuses--refiners (For filtering out undesired effects) and notebooks (For saving recipes). Requires OBSE version 19+.--Unique Landscapes: I'm not going to post just one link because it's a series of mods, but if you're going to get one mod that alters the landscape of Cyrodiil, make it this one. Get ALL the landscape mods for this or you will have problems with missing meshes/textures. Makes Cyrodiil look far more realistic and immersive than Bethesda ever did.--Better Cities: See above, but for the cities. Remember to ALWAYS put this toward the end of your load order in OBMM or you will have problems. It's modular, so you can choose which cities you want to alter.--100% Harvest Chance: Very, very useful if you're going to play a character who uses alchemy a lot. How do you fail to pick up a leaf anyway?--Kvatch Rebuilt: Why stop with just ending the siege of Kvatch? I, too, have always wondered why they don't just rebuild it. Hard men doing hard work! And that gives me a hard-on! But not in a gay way. (I couldn't resist that Boondock Saints II reference)--COBL: One of THE must-have mods for Oblivion. Overhauls your birthsigns, adds more ingredients, more eyes, hairs, races, makes Salmo the Baker's shop actually USEFUL, and acts as a resource for other mods, such as hunger, thirst, and sleep mods. Can't live without it.--Elsweyr: The Deserts of Anequina: Unable to link to it at the moment, but it adds Elsweyr to the game. Why stop your adventures at just Cyrodiil and the planes of Oblivion? It's still unfinished (The cities of Torval and Senchal need to be added and Dune needs to be unfinished, among other things)
