I have to say, what worries me most is that there will be stealing of mods from the nexus to the workshop, espacially good mods by grea mod authors, which are posted here for free and refuse to let mods be for a fee.

Aside from such idea theft, I'm also afraid that the modding community will die down or we will lose the quality of mods and mod authors like chesko (who alrerady said he leaves), SkyUI team, isoku, and any other essential Skyrim modders.

I think it will also impact guys like Brodual or Gopher due to dumbing down of the modding community.

I do hope this move by Valve and Bethesda won't kill the game because it will be unplayble as we used to be able to play it.

And Dark0ne, I, at least, support you and what you've done over the years here.

Aside from the 2000 mods being removed comment (all of my lel), this is sadly spot on.

And hilarious.

She's female, and she's been accusing people of being sexist or anti LGBT all day for getting that wrong.

I'm leaning a bit towards Phantom on some things but not on others. I BELIEVE Dark0ne will keep this site always as intended...100% free. Donations only never a "Pay to Play" model.

Hey Robin, or Dark, which ever one you prefer. I'd just like to say a few things.

I know what it's like to have to choose between making all the spoiled kids happy, or making the community as a whole better.

I'm really glad you've taken this path. Unlike some people here think, you're not selling out. This site needs funds, as much as I can get in fact. And I'm glad that instead of forcing all these good and wonderful people to pay to use this site, you've chosen to allow people to sell what they have created to help fund not only themselves, but hopefully this site.

I wish there was a way that Valve and Bethesda could make the deal sweeter for Nexus, even a small increase from 5% to 10% could make a huge difference, considering how many mods are being sold all ready. Personally I don't like this whole "Pay for Mods" thing, but I can tell that this is a lot better than Valve or You guys forcing people to pay.

The Nexus has been a huge part of my gaming life since I first started playing Fallout 3 in 2008. I was so excited that there were literally thousands of mods out there, created by the people that play the game, to add unlimited additional content for free.

Now that some authors are starting to sell their mods, I'm hoping that some of my favourite modders will keep their services free. If not, so be it, I will try my best without them. If there's a mod that I really need, I'll try my best to save up to purchase it, as long as the author can promise me that it will be serviced and updated fairly often.

I think what most people are scared of are the mod authors that publish a mod and never update it, so as more and more game up dates come out, the mods can be broken. Personally I'm terrified that I might pay for a mod and have it end up dead in the water. The reason I like them free is, if it's a lot of fun at first, and it breaks later on, that's no risk to me, because I used a free service, and didn't expect 100% support for it.

There's no motivation for a TON of people if there's no personal gain in it for them. I understand that completely, I used to work retail for a few months.

Basically what I'm saying is, thank you Robin for protecting this amazing site. It's been amazing so far, and I'm really hoping that you get the cash you need to keep it running.

Sincerely~ A big fan

To all, all of you are making arguments for and against a position of a single person regarding his right to make a decision (which he has). Not one of you has actually bothered to think the issue through and state a position regarding the actual actors in this play.

To summarize the situation and as a reinforcing note:

1/ The Nexus gets nothing if a MODDER elects their mod to be free;

2/ The Nexus gets nothing if a MODDER charges and does not elect the Nexus to benefit;

3/ The Nexus receives a token from Valve if the MODDER wishes the Nexus to receive it;

4/ At no point is the Nexus or Dark0ne involved in that process.

irrespective of your viewpoint, almost no entries have been made attacking or defending the mod authors themselves. If a mod author wants to sell a mod it is their choice not DARKONEs. His position is that it will not appear on the Nexus. If a mod author wishes to not charge then it can appear on the Nexus and anywhere else. If they wish to charge, feel free to direct your vitriol and anger to them, while withholding any funds.

Psijonica, please address your valid comments regarding free mods by the modding community to those authors who have elected to make money, or have used free mods or advice in constructing a mod for which they charge without attribution. Target (what I assume is) the real cause of your anger, Valve, Bethesda and Modders, and not the person who quite rightly is managing his own site and conditions for inclusion. To justify your continued cynicism of his comments (effectively calling him a liar) you have stated that you work with politicians and recognize BS - having worked with both politicians and diplomats myself I am also skeptical of anything they say (or their actions) - however, please review your comments at Dark0ne considering the possibility that you may be erroneously judging him by the loose standards of a group with a known ethical and moral 16 inch yardstick.

Throughout this whole track, Dark0ne has stated only one position: He will always provide an alternative to paid mods. Only Modders can make that position a failure or success, not Dark0ne, so direct your comments accordingly.

Bluntly, the posts I have read to this point compare at a level to the arguments of a group of three year old children instead of a representative group of supposed mature, responsible adults. Please act according to your age and intellect and make relevant and factual comments and plainly identify any opinion.
