OMGOMGOMG I'm playing FNV in blue/cyan 3d!!!

I have a Nvida Geforce 9800 GTX (or 9800 GTX+, I can't remember) While diddling in the NVidia control panel I stumbled across "set up stereoscopic 3d". I ran the set up wizard expecting nothing as you have to buy a 3d tv, 3d video card and $200 powered 3d glasses that connect to a controller via yadda yadda yadda. BUT THERE WAS ANOTHER OPTION! The visors in that option were standard red cyan glasses! I thought to myself, I already gots some cheapo red/cyan specs, could I install this option without buying whatever is in that box behind the specs in the picture? So I continued the set up wizard with that option, and tried to look at a special 3d picture file with the newly installed 3D picture viewer while wearing cheapo paper red/cyan glasses and it worked. Under set up is "view compatability with games" and Fallout 3, Fallout NV and OBLIVION (eek!) was on the list. The next step was to run FNV and BA-LAMMO!!!! 3d gaming without a special 120hz 3d enabled tv/monitor or expensive glasses. I had to increase the brightness but it worked.

You can toggle 3d and control depth and such like via the CTRL+F keys while playing.

Now all I gotta do is dump all the family photos from my hard drive and reinstall Oblivion.

ps this also means 3D screengrabs (da-rooooool)

So 3D gaming with no special monitor, the same video card I played FO3 with and no expensive glasses. I may not be the king of all media but I'm certainly the LibDem-Tory coallition of all media.

I was just thinking of taking some screens. Would I upload them by

1 doing the image upload thingy on nexus itself?

2 upload them to this thread?

3 upload them to nexus and put links here?

Also I don't know how to make video in game at all. Does the game itself have that capability?

The point of my post was that I had good but not latest and greatest video card. I am guessing you guys have good cards and good pcs so you might have this feature in your video card set up. during the set up of steroscopic capability the set up sent me to the Nvidia site where I had to choose NVIDIA® 3D Vision™ Discover (which I chose)or the more advanced 3dVision yadda yadda with the more complicated lenses.

If your monitors can do 120hz then you might be able to use the more advanced version (but that might intail ponying up some mopus - I dunno if it would work with the new movie theatre 3d glasses as some systems require glasses that some howconnect to the computer and require power).

If When I do get some 3d shots I will make sure to recapture this priceless moment in its full stereoscopic beauty:

DAMMIT!!! I took screens thru the game itself (PrtScn) and I ran Fraps and tried again (F10) with 3d completely enabled but the resulting bmp was devoid of the in game blue red anaglyph effect. I swear to god there is a man on the wing of this plane!

I had thought that perhaps the reason they didn't come out was that I had pressed ~ to remove the HUD and movement, then made the screen 3d, pressed PrtScn, undid the 3d, then pressed ~ to go back to the game, and the game took the screencap then. So I went back this morning made sure I did it completely in game without pressing the ~. First normally then with fraps. Nothing worked.

There must be some reason the tansforming process is invisible to the screencapture mechanics.

Is there another screencap program that might work?

with Fraps on I did notice that there was a smaller frame rate while 3d was enabled.

Success!!!! I took a vid with Fraps. It has a button to enable stereoscopic recording The 25 second video was 246megs!

It will only work if the stereoscopic recording feature is on in Fraps AND the game is running in 3d. I tried with stereoscopic record on in fraps but not on in the game and the avi file wasnt 3d.

In standard play it looks like 2 video images next to each other. But I also have Stereoscopic Player and after I fiddled with the view controlls saw that the 3d effect came thru in this video.

I uploaded it to youtube. It was shot in widescreen but plays at a squished 4:3 aspect ratio. (the aspect ratio is correct when the 3d feature is not ennabled and youtube is displaying it as a dual video file) There are options to adjust 3d playback but the 3d effect does come thru.

Here it is at youtube

When viewing remember: There are ways to adjust parallax in game, in the Stereoscopic Player control panel but not on Youtube. It looks different in all 3 environments.

Though it does look better in stereoscopic player and youtube then it does in game.
