AliasTheory
i write however the story demandsif it demands a more widespread knowledge of the characters for the reader to understand, i do thirdif it demands you keep things hidden, or want to really connect to the reader, do first Speaking of which, this post of mine from some time ago may help in this matter: http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/251485-the-hitman/page__view__findpost__p__2334204 First person and present tense are generally harder, I think, but there are some very good things that I've read that are written in that form. HellsMaster
Ok, lets decide on a name. How about Kurtis or Zack? I am working on a world space and history, populace ect. Your contributions are welcome.
RZ1029
Depends on the setting. Modern-style civilization, those names would be sufficient, but you need to make sure the name suits the environment. You aren't about to have Carl the mighty Mage of Naerthelon. Or Bob of the Crystalline Order. But Carl in Accounting and Bob up in HR works just fine.

A name, as I actually discussed with another user privately yesterday, can imply cultural or historical significance, a sum of events (positive or not,) and even what one might think of himself. A ordinary name will create a feeling of commonality; in contrast, a unique and unheard of name may point to a character's key role, etc. Cookies for catching the reference. I agree, this is a fantasy setting right, so we need a name that isn't quite normal, a name you don't commonly hear too often. Think of names like Ezio or Desmond from the AC series, or something not as exotic but catchy like Nico or Nixor. Generally, Russian and German slurs make excellent examples for the early works of a good name. We also have names from Oblivion we can use if that's more your style. What about names like Roland, Troy, Isha (Womens name, but hey, we could use it somewhere), Dominic, Arthur (Trivial, but orginal given the setting), Vlad (Might be an antagonists name?) Axel, Gala (Female) Aiken, Erik, Chester, or Felix. Any catch your eye? Edited January 4, 2011 by Keanumoreira
antonkr
Aiken sounds pretty good I would say. But remember the main character has a family so he won't be called something like The Great Assasin Theif Sir *insert name here.

TheCalliton
i hate to throw a new idea out there suddenly, but i had this daydream while my dad was driving us home form karatea great solider returns to his family, the enemy has fled and he is home. Shortly though, the enemy tries a sneaky plan to get the soldier away in the hopes of making a final push, so they steal his daughter and flee, purposefully staying at the same pace, but he falls behind because he is forced to help the populace, and when he is in all but despair, an angelic being helps him... climactic battle, blah blah blah
