thisaccountisuseless
So, I absolutely HATE the layout of Markarth. It's confusing to people like me who have some mental disabilities (not saying which ones). I usually can't ever find anything I'm looking for and it's too steep in places and there's always a lot of jumping and falling off ledges. While this may not be true for everybody, I HATE it with a passion. I am thinking of making a mod called "Markarth Reimagined" or "Markarth Reborn" or "Markarth - City of the Dwemer" in which Markarth isn't built on top of but rather next to or alongside the Dwemer ruins. While this could be potentially quest- and lore-breaking I do intend to remedy that partway through development. I also want to make it compatible with a mod I'm working on that merges the Holds with the outside world so you don't have to wait 10-15 seconds while Whiterun or similar loads. Basically you can open the gates while in Skyrim and immediately find yourself in Whiterun without a loading screen, like with villages. The gates would either be more guarded or automatically close. I was thinking LoZ OOT Hyrule Castle style - Open during the day and closed at night.
Noortje
I agree that the layout is crap, but changing it will be a looooot of work since it will break a ton of quests. Why not add sign posts showing you the way to shops, temples etc instead? Edited April 29, 2015 by Noortje
Deleted31005User
Just keep running in circles, you'll get where you need to be eventually :D
LoofSquared
Personally, I've always been all for difficult and chaotic layouts despite easily getting lost and a mod I've been working on makes Markarth even more confusing, with paths under and over the streets, above and under piping and... and, yeah. I can see though, why it would be difficult for some to navigate, as it somewhat is for me.
Rabbit1251
I only travel to Markarth to do quests that I can't actually get out of. The layout is detestable. It reminds me of the cities in Morrowind where I'm forever wandering around in circles until I find myself back where I started. Plus the fact that the last time my character was in the city she found herself run out of town for crossing the wrong faction. I'll go play in Whiterun, thank you very much for asking. SeanMungo
Yeah, i was looking for the rabble area of markarth, where all the sick people are. (beggars row i think)I was looking for it for a good 25 minutes, till i found it haha. Hate the layout.
sLoPpYdOtBiGhOlE
Use to hate Makath, mainly due to the forced main quest when you walk in the gate. But after so long I've gotten use to it and I play it many different ways (even though it all ends the same). Makath Under Keep, that's the poverty area.My fav part of Makath, I usually spend hours in there in game, clean up all the rubble and dirt cave walls in the rooms.Put carpet throughout the whole underkeep.Add fireplaces and cooking pots to all the rooms.Add all noble furniture and nice lighting.Give all is residents nice clothes. As I said I do it in game while playing using mods that allow you to do it in game on the fly.
Notanon81
It's on par with Windhelm for my least favourite city in Skyrim. Think I hate Windhelm a little more, though, as the layout is much more confusing, whereas Markarth is somewhat more navigable and much easier to get your bearings as to where you are in the city. thisaccountisuseless
Markarth is just a lot of up and down and going in circles. Windhelm is just walls. Those builders from Windhelm have curved walls. Curved. Walls.
