demidekidasu
I am getting these new and annoying pop-up ads on almost every page I visit... Despite the fact that normaly I completely loath advertising of any kind, I do in fact absolutely understand the need for advertising revenue to financially support the site(s), and because of this, I have so far welcomed the advertising that is present. But this is now becoming quite rediculous, and I feel that it is a step too far. Just think about all of those obscure sites in the deepest and darkest depths of the internet (no, I am not necassarily talking about "adult" sites! lol) that bombard visitors with various unpleasant advertising techniques, and think about how you do not trust them and avoid visiting them in the future (well, I do). Are the nexus sites heading in that direction? You and I may trust the nexus sites, but how do you think potentially new members of this site(s) will feel when they first visit? The site is giving itself an image that is really quite negative. Also, the ads are seriously annoying me personally. They are intrusive, unwelcome and very much disrupt my browsing experience. One of the things I like about the nexus sites (as well as the great community) is the fact that they are so well-organised and streamlined, making it a very simple and painless experience to find and download mods. These new pop-ups are changing that.
Dark0ne
If you are getting them on every page visit then something is wrong. They're on an 8 hour timer (1 every 8 hours). The system to insure you don't get spammed by them is no doubt using cookies to track the times so if you're blocking cookies then it is going to cause problems on the site. TheCalliton
you could also have spyware, no system is fully immune to it, its best to run a full scan, make sure it is all gone
Pitrus
Are you certain that the ads are safe then? My system warns me about the ads using cross site scripting every time I get them, and I know from experience that xss can be real nasty stuff. Dark0ne
Pop-unders, interstitials, banner ads...they all work off the same concept so if you're OK with normal banner ads then you should be OK with any of the other formats as far as security is concerned. They're ALL open to XSS, malware injections and everything in between should a publisher be hacked or lax in their security. That's why everyone should be up-to-date and secure with their browsers, anti-viruses, firewalls and anti-malware/anti-spyware. Pop-unders just get a bad rap because many bad sites notoriously use them to the extreme; pop-up after pop-up after pop-up. That's not the case here and if it is the case then it will be something to do with the browser/anti-spyware you're using blocking the ad cookie that times the pop-ups so you don't get one on every page. amgepo
If the problem is that when the script can't read the cookie, it will open an add for each time a page is opened, why not make the add not opening unless the cokie is readed? This way people blocking cockies won't had such a hard time. I don't think the advertisers would mind it, as they want people knowing their products, not hating it. Eiries
That's right, I imagine each network has it's own ad cookie, which means if you're browsing all three, you're gonna get a lot more ads. And if you're like me and you have your browser set to empty your history and cookie cache every time you close it, you're gonna get hit even more. My suggestion is to set your browser settings to not delete said cookies, or use something like NoScript or AdBlocker Plus to prevent these popups. They have settings to do so without hindering all the ads of the site. I have yet to experience a single popup, even when I'm not logged in. If there wasn't so much voice about it here, I wouldn't have even known there was a change.
blakavar
I am getting them too, and on every fifth page or so. Redirects mostly. Something is seriously up with the nexus sites. I don't get them on other sites, so its not on my end.
demidekidasu
My browser(Firefox) is succesfull in blocking a large number of these pop-ups, but some manage to open themselves. My internet security is COMODO(which is somewhat known for its effectiveness), and it is up-to-date, and I run it with the Defense+ and Antivirus security levels set to "paranoid" whenever I browse the internet, due to the fact that I do not want to risk losing any of my archived music work to a virus - which has happened to me before, albeit on a "small" scale... And, as far as I am aware, my system is not currently compromised by any malware/spyware. Even if my system has been compromised, the point still remains that the nexus sites are now using pop-up ads, which I seriously do not appreciate under any circumstances, and I am sure that the majority of other members feel the same way about this! Banner ads are an acceptable evil, but pop-up ads are a very nasty weed in the garden of the internet. Please don't ruin the nexus with them...
