Which computer to impress a girl?

Recommended Posts

There is this girl at church I like named Kim. She is an immigrant from Korea. I heard that in Korea girls are into guys who play Starcraft, and that some of the top starcraft players marry actresses and models. I am trying really hard to become good at Starcraft, although I almost always lose to my Korean friends. Kim has a pink netbook with a hello kitty sticker on it, but no machine that can play Starcraft. She also says that she has never had a boyfriend, and is a virgin. I really like her, and want to win her heart, which computer should I get to impress her?

I've got a Vaio Model PGC-71211M, and I must say it is a rather snazzy computer and is worth the money, good for games as it has 4GB of RAM, this is a computer for a variety of things. Now you go find yourself a starcraft loving korean girl and may the rest of your life be filled with christian korean girls. xx

This case: http://www.nzxt.com/..._series/phantom

And if youre worying about running SC 2 then youre probably doomed, SC 2 was coded pretty bad and has a lot of special effects even higher end GPUs can't handle.

Focus on high end CPU and GPU with 4-6 gig ram (>4 gig requires 64 bit OS) don't spend too much on the HDD and buy a nice case

GL with the girl tho

SC2 isn't that bad, I got it to play on a $700 laptop with an Nvidia Geforce 9300M.

Why would I need an HDD? Couldn't I just run Windows off of a flash drive or a memory card?

If you want windows as your main OS then you need a relativly small fast(ish) hard disk drive but if youre going to boot off a flash drive make it a decent one with quite a few megabytes/seccond transfer rate or expect windows to totaly dominate your data transfer

It's a really shaky stereotype that all Koreans like StarCraft.

That would be like saying all Scots wear kilts and like the taste of Haggis. Im about 90% scots by blood, I never wear a kilt, hate the sound og bagpipes, and am slightly sickened by Haggis.

Firstly, "Korea" is split down the middle, with a democratic capitalist south that's a major part of the western allied powerbloc, and a dictatorial communist north. North Korea I dont believe even allows the import of video games, let alone the fact that 97% of people cant afford to eat, let alone have a kick ass gaming rig and high speed internet.

And for god's sake, she may have left Korea to get away from the SC boys!

But anyway, I reckon you'd want an airbrushed Acer Predator for looks-if she doesnt know anything about PCs, the Predator will blow her mind... ...then again if she does turn out to be a PC pro, she'll think you're a tasteless moron who bought a PC for it's case.

For power, I'd recomend going all out on a boutique gaming PC like my localy made(literaly just down the road) Skorpion Venom. It's not pretty, but it was cheap as chips, is beautifuly put together, is easy to dustsweep, has superb cooling, and best of all, eats Crysis for breakfast. All for 2200 USD.

Shop around. The best beasts on the market are typicaly from mid to large inderpendant aftermarket parts retailers rather than the big megacorps like Alienware or Asus.

Alienware for example are unequaled for power or quality, and they are real head turners, but they're aweful value for money. $2500 will get you Scorpion's top gaming machine, with 8GB RAM, CrossFire, an I-7 quadcore, and massive cooling. It would buy you an Alienware with 4 GB RAM, a dualcore I5, and a small calibre 500 GB GPU.

Shop around. Before you buy, explore all options, and make sure you check the local magazines, LAN cafes, and gaming community for parts retailers and PC assemblers in your local area; shipping a PC costs a LOT.

Oh, and avoid NZXT, I've owned one of those and the build quality is abhorrent. The case door fell off within a year.

Asus is cheaper than gigabyte though

while NZXT is kinda flimsy it still looks good and is just as strong as a cheap 'n' nasty coolermaster without the anoying HDD bays

You want a good looking case, get a Thermaltake V9 BlackX.

http://legitreviews.com/images/news/2010/thermaltake_v9.jpg

Seriously. Just look at that beast.

I have one, and the build quality is absolutely excellent. The stock fans are more than powerful enough, and it has great airflow as there is hardly a solid surface on it save the side and the HDD dock area.

The internal components are all up to you. You could go Intel or AMD for processor, there's dual core, quad core and even hexacore processors. There is so many graphics cards worth the money its not even funny, theres multiple brands of RAM (Although Kingston is the only one I've ever had) again, multiple brands of harddrives each with their redeeming qualities, multiple motherboards, there is so many choices.

You are always better off building your own, as you often get cheated by the companies into spending a lot for a little, where you could just as easily spend a lot less for a lot more.

So as Vindekarr said, hunt around. Look into the local computer shop (If you have one) and pick up a catalogue, or look online for a shop near you.

There is nothing more satisfying than building one yourself from the ground up and turning it on for the first time though...

Aye.

Thermaltake are excellent.

It's like with cars.

If you want to impress a dim witted ignoramous, or to show a smart, knowledgable girl just what little respect you have for said knowledge, buy a BMW M-3 or Z-4. You'll look like a tastless, unimaginative dimwit, but a rich dimwit, and some people cant resist that.

If you want to impress a lady with taste in cars, try something a lot less well known, something with charisma, Like some sort of oldI(1979 or older) classic with some serious reputation. The ultimate car to take on a date is this:

Jaguar E-Type V12. 1965. You dont need to know the E-Type's history to know it's beautiful, equisitely built, and was once very. very fast. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jaguar_E-Type_front_20081002.jpg

The best way to impress a girl is to show her you have taste. and a brain. Get a machine that's not only powerful, but well designed.
