Warfare12
I recently bought a Steam copy of Oblivion due to the sale. After installing I tried launching it and it crashed to desktop right away. I figured it was the mods I installed so I uninstalled every mod(removed from oblivion folder and deleted from HDD) and oblivion. Later today I reinstalled Oblivion and I am still getting the same error as last night. Windows is giving me this Error Signature:Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Oblivion.exe Application Version: 1.2.0.416 Application Timestamp: 462392c7 Fault Module Name: Oblivion.exe Fault Module Version: 1.2.0.416 Fault Module Timestamp: 462392c7 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00175ba9 OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 27c8 Additional Information 2: 27c8ce5af7a07bedf550bd9c573901b3 Additional Information 3: e56e Additional Information 4: e56e9cfaf3cd1084b6b4c016d12ce64c Thanks for the help in advanced! Quick Edit: I noticed that the opening cinematic will play, but once it is over it will CTD. Edited December 31, 2010 by Warfare12
LHammonds
EDIT: Just noticed the OS ver in your report...you're running Win7. Are you running Vista or Win7? If so, did you install Steam to the "Program Files" folder and thus doom all Steam games to also be installed under the "Program Files" folder? UAC folder security does not work well with games where you touch files in the game folders. If you answered Yes to these questions, I'd recommend uninstalling Oblivion and uninstalling Steam. Then re-install Steam to a location outside of "Program Files" such as C:\Steam or D:\Steam LHammonds

Thanks, I'll update this thread if it worked or not. Edit: I have UAC off, if that makes any difference. SandsOfTime404
I've got all my Steam stuff in Program Files(x86) and have never had these problems. Hopefully I didn't just jinx it...

bben46
Are you launching Oblivion through steam?Do you have any mods or programs such as OBSE? Turning UAC off opens your computer to certain viruses that change your antivirus making it no longer work, even though the windows says it is. They also block access to many antivirus websites making it difficult to load a real AV program. Best indication this has happened - try to manually update your AV. If you cannot, you are infected. Just running a scan will not find it as it has gone into your AV program and exempted itself. Much better, leave the UAC ON, install games outside of the protected files. Warfare12
The reinstall to the C: directory finished a little while ago, but to no avail. I still have the same problem.
bben46
First do a check to see if your computer can run the game. This is a problem with some laptops and even desktops with an integrated video (video on the motherboard) - the video system is not compatible. Go here to see if your computer can run the gamehttp://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/ You will find the various game we support Oblivion listed as 'The Elder Scrolls IV, OblivionFallout3 as Fallout3 PC Dragon Age listed as Dragon age Fallout New Vegas as Fallout: New VegasMorrowind is not listed, However if you can run Oblivion at all it should run well on your system. Warfare12
I've seen to fix it by downloading an older version of DirectX. Hopefully it stays this way.
