Gothic III

I have tried different approaches in several started games (never quite finished) and I think the thing I like about dual wielding is the animation rather than its value. Becoming master also doesn't seem to add a lot.

There are quite a few exp points gained from getting rep IN Ishtar to 75. You might want to play with the quests there in a side game at some time.

The hashishin rep comes from various quests. If you do Sancho's in Ben Erai he will give you a letter to give to Sigmor (I think) in Bakaresh which earns 15, tribute from Braga is 15, clearing the raiders from the oasis near Bakaresh is 20, the man who killed Ramirez (for Ningal in Mora Sul) is 15, killing all water mages nets 25, killing Shakyor gives 4 and there are 6 points you can get for doing the hashishin quests in Myrtana.

Well I just got this game today ^^ and overall I think it's great. I am enjoying it very much and I belive this is the first rpg in wich the player character actually speaks (from all of the other games I've played). I'm a mere level 5 right now and I tried to go head on with a couple ogres... I belive you can imagine the result. I like the way the character plays an animation for everything he does (drinking water wee ^^). The way you earn skills intrigues me, I would say it is very original; but a pain if you are short on gold or have no clue where the specific trainer can be found.

I like the distance blur effect. Made me think that the PC needs glasses, but it definetly makes the game look better. Even with textures on high, I belive some of the armors could be refined. The environment is oblivionish though. I am happy to notice that full body awarness is included, however it has its difficulties and it isn't very pretty to play with (unlike Dark Messiah) - mainly because of the cloth textures -. There is occasional lag when I reach another region on my system, but thats about it. I dont understand much of the story itself (I am still very early in the game and I never played previous versions). The soundtracks are breathtaking, for a videogame. Looks like I will have lots of fun with this one!

Edit:

Where should I head to after Cape Dun and Ardea? I tried going to Vangrat (?) but the orc army there kicked my ass. I am lvl 8 or so at the moment ^^ and I'm looking for a place suited for my level.

May I suggest Ardea, Reddock Cape Dun to buld up your character. For interest there is a mine complex under cape Dun that can be accessed via the beach and cliff pathway; however, there be dragons there and although you can shoot Ogres from unaccesable or distant areas in the mine, I had to leave the dragons for later. That reminds me....... :)

Generally speaking Myrtana is for the lowwe level character with a few notable exceptions, then Varant, and finally Nordmar. :)

Hope it helps. Played some more last night as it happens.

You can shoot the dragons too as it happens if you experiment a bit. The first can be disposed of from the walkways above and the second either by luring it into the same area or by framing it with two static pieces like pillars that overlap at the bottom (in a non 3d environment that is). This trapping of monsters behind the statics can be exploited in other areas too. I only take advatage if it happens by accident!

There is no specific route but the general progress seems to be Montera - Okara - Gotha - Faring - Vengard - Silden - Geldern - Nemora - Trelis and then the desert.

To get max points do the quest to find a new man for Nemora when you are ready for Varant. He will ask for help on a quest and then 'show you Varant'. It's just a few exp points but every little helps.

Word of advice in Montera - save often, you can screw up some of the quests by accident.

The first mod has been created for Gothic 3 and it is one I intend to try out. It is a stunlock fixer mod and so far has recieved a decent amount of praise. The link is here: http://forum.jowood.com/showthread.php?t=127616

One of the moderators for those forums even stickied it I guess.

Thought i'd let everyone know. I also read something about the future plans for the game by PB, but can't seem to find the thread again. :/

Someone fixed the stunlock? Fantastic! :D I just hope it works properly. I'm not playing at the moment but will bookmark it. Thanks for the link.
