Stop Billing Me!

I subscribe to the Nexus Mod Manager premium membership over a year ago. I played Skyrim for a couple of months, and enjoyed the benefits of premium.

But ever since I stopped playing, I have been completely unsuccessful in getting you guys to stop billing my account. I have tried googling the issue to find the unsubscribe page. I have tried emailing people that I thought could help me: no response. I finally found the EXTREMELY hidden unsubscribe options, and I am still being billed. I even attempted to block you as a merchant on my bank, but now it is going through Paypal, as a backup funding source. I have been completely unsuccessful in finding any kind of help section of your site.

This is ludicrous. What must I do to stop being billed? Why, after unsubscribing two months ago, am I still being billed $4.99 a month? And my membership was only ever supposed to cost $2.99!

Your site is incredibly confusing to navigate, it is nearly impossible to find the screen on which you can unsubscribe. I am an interface designer, and I regularly work with sites designed by programmers, which are all horrible. (think Microsoft Sharepoint) but even a programmer must know that people will want to access their payment information! The only thing I can think of is that you've intentionally introduced this dark pattern to squeeze more money out of people. I have had it. Stop f*#@ing billing me right now! I haven't used this service since 2013, you money-grubbing bastards!

Wow. You could've asked nicely, you know.

The "Contact Us" button below will let you directly talk with Robin, the site owner.

Yeah, I used that button a while back but I never got a response. Imagine that.

Edit: Ok, maybe I didn't. I might have done that on the nexus mod manager site where the skyrim mods are hosted.

If it's been a while, then why didn't you try a second time?

If you're on a recurring payment via PayPal, you have to stop that via PayPal. NexusMods doesn't handle that process. Here are the steps:

Here's how to cancel an automatic billing agreement you have with a merchant:
  1. Log in to your PayPal account.
  2. Click the Profile icon next to "Log out."
  3. Click Preapproved Payments under "Payment settings."
  4. Click the merchant name.
  5. Click Cancel Automatic Billing at the top of the page.

Link for help in PayPal support.

Edit: The "Contact Us" button is in the forums here, not the site itself. Also, you don't show up as a Premium member here. If you're still being billed, then that status should reflect here under your icon. You don't have either Supporter or Premium account status.

Okay, thanks. I managed to cancel it via Paypal.

I still maintain that it's a bad business & design practice to hide your account payment setting so deep within your site. It should be easily accessible, and there should be obvious instructions or buttons to cancel your subscription.

If I click "cancel" on the my subscription page, it should cancel the payment. If that's not what it does, that should be abundantly f*#@ing clear on the page. Like, I realize I may be being a little harsh, but from my perspective, that's really really poor design and even worse customer service.

Thank you for helping me out though, but I do recommend you guys try and re-evaluate how this information is displayed and where it is located.

First of all you, you've never sent a message in through the "Contact Us" system on either the site or the forums (they link to the same place).

Your Nexus user area tells you all about your Premium Membership, if you have any, including whether you're a Premium Member, whether you're a Supporter, whether your payment is a recurring payment and how much time your Premium Membership has left. It's important to point out that if your payment is a recurring payment it's because you specifically selected the "Pay Pal - Recurring payment method" from the drop-down menu. This is not the default option, and you'd have had to have gone through some hoops on the proceeding Pay Pal payment screens to set that up.

If your payment is a recurring payment your user area even has an additional link with information on how to cancel your recurring membership which points to this page on the Wiki.

I'm not quite sure how much more obvious you want it to be made but right now, it's pretty obvious!

  • 5 years later...

Almost comical, 5 years later, this is the same issue. What's almost just as funny, is the comment "Can you change the payments or force payments through I haven't authorised?" in the wiki (this must happen often).

It seems, and this is giving Nexus a break, that this is simply terrible timing in canceling when its in active attempts to charge me. I have an invoice in membership payments on August 14th. Yet, since I cancelled my subscription through Paypal, I woke up TODAY (9/2/2020) to another charge after I removed it. Getting an email stating, that since my bank(?) blocked the charge, Paypal decided to take it from an empty account and go negative.

This sort of situation is not apparent to happen and the Nexus team distancing themselves by mentioning they can't nor ever see my card information, doesn't make the user feel any better when EVERY SITE in 2020 (let alone 5 years ago) should just be simple to work with in regards to payment and subscriptions. Obviously, its user error. But how can I manage my other subscriptions, hell, my mod lists for busted ass bethesda games better, than

understanding why I'm getting charged. Where is that money going if Nexus doesn't see the card and Paypal has lost its connections to this membership? Sorry. Just frustrated.

As mentioned in your support ticket, you were charged on the 24th of August (as you have been every month since you started your subscription) and you cancelled your subscription on the 26th of August - if it's only showing on your bank statement today then this is more an issue with your bank and how long it takes for them to handle international transactions (we are in the UK) than it is an issue with something we have or have not done. We cannot control how long your bank takes to show things on your statement.
