Advice and Help

Hey there all. I thought this would be a fitting place to ask (if not, could anyone direct me to the right forum?).

-Going around Youtube, I've seen a lot of mods which allow for higher detail terrain and prettier models. I'm not a too big anime fan, and I like the body type to be somewhat realistic (not giant breast and bottem size for example). Any suggestions for terrain and model mods?

-Could someone guide me through the process of installing it? I've been looking up guides and such, but so far I've only been met with disapointment. I have OBMM and obse_loader which I was suggested to get.

Edit: I got my Companion to work! There's still a few things though. I'd like to change her hair and I downloaded the files needed for it. However it's a ESP file and I don't know where to place it. (I thought Rens Beauty Pack - hair, but that didn't work.)

My thanks in advance, I'm not all that talented with computers, so your assistance is greatly appreciated.

-Ghost

- Get texture replacer. Qarl's Texture Pack III is popular, but if you have insuffient graphic card, it can kill your machine. Rather, using QTPIII reduced or redimized which are lower resolution version of QTPIII is recommended usually. If you want to find other texture replacer and graphic mod, you can find some information from TOTO.

- For female body replacer, if you prefer 'realistic', I recommend you either Robert's female body or TGND(The Girl Next Door). However, remember you can use only one male body type and one female body type.

For terrain and towns, provided you have a decent computer and graphics card, you should consider QTP3 (or the redimized version), Unique Landscapes, Better Cities, Weather All Natural, AWLS, Natural Environments etc.

For body replacer, if you don't like large breast and butts, you shoudl try Robert's Male and Robert's Female. There is also TGND, or BAB. HGEC, though the most widespread, was designed with large breasts and butts in mind, and attracts legions of anime type gear. No doubt people will tell you that you can get smaller breast versions, and yes you can, but what they may not tell you is that there is very little support for smaller sizes in armour and clothing, whereas the other body models are designed with a more realistic shape from the start.

If you have OBMM, you should look for OMOD versions of mods, or create them yourself -- consider getting OBMM Extended, which makes creating OMODs easier.

Whenever you download a mod, always extract the contents to a temporary folder before installing, as not all modders pack their files in a standard way, and many failed installations are made because people are just told to extract everything to the game or data folder. Remember, all mods that have an .esp must go in your Oblivion\Data\ folder. But the most important thing to remember is to read the installation directions carefully -- Vilja mod is an example of bad installation instructions, and the esp and bsa files should go in your \Data\ folder.

I decided to get the TGND mod, but installing it is a complete mystery to me. Apperantly I have to install it in /Bethesda Softworks/Oblivion Mods/Bash Installers/Wrye Bash or something? I can't find this Wrye Bash folder or program or whatever it is.

(Oblivion modding is confusing!)

Thanks for the heads up. So far pretty much all mods I downloaded were vague to say the least. (Been working roughly 6 hours on trying to get mods now)

It seems most mods rely on other mods to be installed to work, am I correct?

You have downloaded the BAIN installer. Try the ordinary archive, and don't forget the update.

That's a 'yes' and 'no'. You will find that most armour and clothing mods require a certain body model, some mods require OBSE because they use advanced scripting, others may rely on the resources from another mod. All of this is more reason to always read the requirements and installation instructions before even downloading.

Alright man, you've already been a great help. I got a job interview now so I can't linger, but I'll continue trying when I get back.

haha thanks, no luck I'm afraid on that front.

However I have been making progress with my mods. I have a lovely lady, all suited up with a texture pack. But while looking for mods, I noticed a lot of pretty faces. What's the best one to download and will it interfear with my Girls Next Door model and Body Texture (F-INevOblivion)?
