paroxysm
Well, I recently purchased a new laptop after my old one literally caught fire (bit of a long story), and it came with Windows 7 64-bit. I had lost my original FO3 discs, so I went ahead and purchased the GOTY edition. One exceptionally long install later, I'm running the game, going through the birth sequence and... freeze. The background and, sometimes, the dialogue continues, but the picture freezes and I can't even hit escape and pause. I'm forced to Ctrl-Alt-Del and end the process. Thing is, it doesn't always stop at the same place. I've tried like ten times, and sometimes I get through the birth sequence, only to have it freeze during the birthday party, or somewhere else. Is this common, and, if so, is there a solution? Cheersparoxysm
PlasmidCorruption
ok there are 3 things you can do... actually 4 or 5....1. download a samegame and load it up and see if you can make it past the birth sequence.2. open console... hit ` to open it... then look op console commands to "cheat" yourself past the place where it crashes3 install the latest 1.7 patch4 . use a mod called FWE to bypass the birth sequence.5 Call customer support... lol
Fonger
3 install the latest 1.7 patchhe got GOTY so he should already have this, unless he forgot to install disk 2 BTW, 1.7 patch has hidden requirement for an update for GFWL (or the GFWL killing mod)

bben46
There is NO compatibility problem with running FO3, or New Vegas with Win7 x64. Many people, Including me are using it with no problems. There are problems with GFWL and also with some laptop Graphics subsystems. A laptop that is not rated for games will probably have a cheaper graphics chip. It will work fine for business applications and watching you tube videos, but will choke on a game such as FO3. Of course any salesman will tell you 'Of course it will run it' as they are trying to sell a computer and get a commission. Trying to get them to admit they lied (or more likely - just don't have a clue) is harder than pulling teeth. :whistling: Calling BethSoft tech support will get their stock answer - It doesn't support Win7 - What it sounds like they are saying is the game doesn't support Win7 - in reality what they are saying is that Beth Support doesn't support Win7. That is the only answer they are allowed to give. If anything, the game actually runs better on Win7. However because they have not done extensive testing with Win7 (and are not going to) They do not give any tech support relating to Win7. - This sounds to me like a lawyers decision 'We are not going to support it because we might get sued if we give a wrong answer' Go here to see if your computer can run the gamehttp://www.systemreq...tslab.com/cyri/ You will find the various game we support Oblivion listed as 'The Elder Scrolls IV, OblivionFallout3 as Fallout3 PC Dragon Age listed as Dragon age Fallout New Vegas as Fallout: New VegasMorrowind is not listed, However if you can run Oblivion at all it should run well on your system. Good luck in finding a solution.
Bottletopman
I've had this problem too, but then I fixed it using this, but it only works if your CPU has more than two cores, otherwise you're on your own. Go to the FALLOUT.ini file, then find the line called bUseThreadedAI=0 and change it to bUseThreadedAI=1Add a new line under that called iNumHWThreads=2 , then save the text. I don't know what the first one does, but the second command tricks the game into using only 2 cores; for some reason, Fallout 3 can't support processors with more than 2 cores.
