Mods for Skyrim might ruin the fun??

Well for me the ability to mod IS the game.

Neither the main story for Morrowind or Oblivion is of much interest to me.

I just want all the assets from the games, all the 3d models and textures I can get off the net and make an empty world using the CS and then create my own personal world with all the goodies.

I have endless fun watching over the worlds I create and seeing all my little people use their AI to interact with their neighbors.

I give hundreds of NPCs skills and various stats, different jobs and routines and then watch them live their lives.

My Oblivion mod has about 300 NPCs so far. I have them eat at each others houses and in the 40 plus taverns, tea gardens, rooftop restaurants and corner cafes as well as dubious nightclubs and a haunted hotel.

On certain days they may go the community meeting hall, a guildhall, temple or go swimming.

They have to travel to their destinations several times a day so the towns and pathways have lots of travelers.

By adjusting everyone AI and randomizing their routines it's amazing to watch the things they get into and the more you leave them alone the more they interact with each other.and by adding bandits or wild animals on the roadways they may have to defend themselves often as muggers are always knocking out someone for their food.

My modding is just for my own personal enjoyment. The only mods I use are ones that add assets - like Mr. Siilka's animals and many models from modders who have made items. But , believe it or not no armor or weapons.

I don't care much for armor because it always seems to look brand new overly decorated and impossible to wear. Leather is good enough for most of my characters. Only a palace guard gets armor City watch have leather and chainmail.

My mods are never finished - there's no such thing for me as a finished mod. It's merely gets absorbed into a larger one. There is always more to add and do building, decorating, landscaping and animal husbandry.

I liken my modding to any physical hobby such as model trains or cartooning.

Ah, finally someone who speaks the truth. I mean, quest mods and such are good, but things like BBB are for people with some serious issues IMO. Big breasts are caused usually by obesity, or implants...

im pretty sure BBB is Better Bouncing Boobs. i think you mean the mods that have huge boobs, not porn star boobs like type3 or eyecandy but huge "i cant run or walk fast" boobs. boobs that crash your rib cage if lay on your back. idk i think its wried ppl play with them, theres a point where boobs become to big, then they just become unattractive. like two huge cancerous tumors.

Well, actually, mods are for people who wanna feel something that cannot feel in vanilla game. but if you get mods which is nearly or really lore-stuff, no. those won't ruin the game. ^_^ Edited by Choi_Seungmin

I see both sides of the argument. No one is forced by any means to use mods they do not desire and those who choose to use a mod regardless of it's contents have every right to due so regardless of your opinion. At the same time it is not wrong to desire a modding community more focused on content that pertains to the lore more and is tailored to enhance and fall in line with the game rather than go against it.

I personally am not a fan of the anime or hentai style mods and personally keep my game in strict line with the lore of Elder Scrolls staying away from the flashy equipment and overly sexualized mods. It often does feel that the kinds of mods I like get lost in vast sea of swimsuits and pose mods that the Nexus has become, but regardless everyone is entitled to what they enjoy and if that is what people like and modders enjoy creating then by all means go for it.

I would love to see a category for non-immersion breaking mods because even with the current system I search for Weapons or Armor and I have to pick through pages upon pages of skimpy outfits and FF7 Buster Sword remakes to find an actual mod that feels at home in the Elder Scrolls Universe.

NAPALM, that is exactly what the "Lore-Friendly" tag is for. Choose that tag and weapons, and you will find only lore-friendly weapons.

Although, this requires people to tag files that are lore-friendly as lore friendly, so you won't find EVERY lore-friendly weapon mod using that system at the moment. (here's hoping that people have gotten used to the tag system when Skyrim arrives, so most, if not all mods will be tagged. )

And what is really Lore-Friendly Weapons? - To me, that would be any weapon that is possible to have in The Elder Scrolls, and which doesn't look too off. This is a very subjective opinion, and I don't know of any true guideline as to what a Lore-Friendly Weapon is, so I got with my opinion. And others may go with another opinion, and therefore, Weapons tagged as Lore-Friendly, may not be lore-friendly to you.

I suppose Lore-Friendly is a subjective thing. To me it is anything that looks the part of a medieval fantasy universe such as Elder Scrolls or anything that doesn't directly violate know facts and location in the world.

I have no problem with things that are not quite "Lore" as long as that can be made to fit. An example is miss_onatopp's Elves of Lineage mod is obviously not Elder Scrolls but I have always wanted an Ayleid character so I used the Elf Race from her mod as the a base and with some tweaking of my own I have an Ayleid Race with full description, stats, racial spells, and aesthetics that fall in line with Elder Scrolls and would not seem out of place in the game.

Also remember, there are mods that create their own lore with their own new worlds(Nehrim) .The mods for Nehrim should be Nehrim Lore friendly. Also, Nehrim is like an New Vegas from FO3, a new distinct game :woot: , seriously, how could Bethesda not hire everyone who works at SureAI and made this. How can anyone say Nehrim ruined anything, I realize the title of this forum should have been "Mods, choose wisely"Mods can't be grouped into good and bad, no one forces them on anyone, and I have to admit, there are some terrible mods out there that I will never consider using, alongside mods that have kept this game alive longer than the computers I play it on, and also probably sucked up a free hobby slot for me as well.Mods were a vital part of my Oblivion. But, to each his own, eh? Live and let mod!

While I can say that I haven't read the whole discussion here there is one thing that I've noticed is often missing in these types of discussion.

You should ALWAYS support the release of modding tools for the community, regardless of what those tools will be used for or whether or not you intend to mod your own game. The simple reason is that the popularity of the game will increase with modding tools available. The more popular a game is the more support it gets from the developers in the form of official patches, expansions and sequels.

So don't say that it doesn't matter to you if tools are available or not, it does affect you indirectly.

This thread really doesn't make much sense to me. If there are certain types of mods that you think ruin the fun, like others have said, don't use them! As for mods in general? What's wrong with a good quest mod? Or mods like Unique landscapes and FCOM that pretty much make it a new game? Sure you might want to play through vanilla once but those mods help to keep things interesting. Also, look at what mods have apparently done for skyrim already! We are seeing combat much like what is seen in the most popular oblivion combat mods deadly reflex and unnecessary violence. We are going to see a new leveling system similar to that seen in the more popular progression mods like nGCD and Progression. We are gona see some sort of economy like whats seen in the Enhanced and living economy mods. We are seeing changes to archery, and it has already been admitted the change was inspired by duke patricks archery mod.

I highly doubt modding will take anything away from the game. It seems apparent to me that modding has only served to improve the game the mod is for and those that come after.
