BriarRose55
hi, i'm relatively new to modding, i've posted a few simple mods i made with the creation kit, but i'm looking to expand and learn how to create my own armour, weapons, textures, etc. i just finished downloading nifskope, 3ds max 2015, and the 3ds max nif importer-exporter found here on nexusmods. but every video i watch, and every forum i read, also insists i need fallout mod manager to upack my .bsa files, while others say to use .bsa opt. and then some ppl warn that unpacking .bsa files is bad for the game. i'm getting so confused, i really want to branch out and make something worthwhile, can anyone tell me if i really do need fallout mod manager? or should i use bsa opt? also, i currently use mod organizer, couldn't it do the job? please help, it would be very much appreciated. :)
Boombro
I use BSAopt mainly for Skyrim to unpack bsa, used it for a long time and it didn't fail me. Did not test it with other games but is should work with them. It should not damage the game, but if you wish to be careful you can unpack the bsa somewhere other than the game files. Werne
I personally used FOMM to unpack BSAs since, well, I already had FOMM. It's completely irrelevant which one you use since you unpack the BSAs once in forever, not 10 times a day, so take whichever program you prefer. And by the way, never unpack BSAs into the game's directory or you'll be in for a hell of a mess. Make a folder in "My Documents" and unpack the BSAs there, then just point NifSkope over to it in Render/Setting. BriarRose55
thank you so much! that had me sweating, lol i didn't want to unpack it in my skyrim files and find i'd made a mess of the game! it boggles the mind how many programs i need to get into modding, but i'm determined to learn! in one video it showed for installing nifskope, the person put it in his program files? i thought that was a big no-no? i have my skyrim in a separate folder from program files, should i put the nifskope and the 3ds max in program files or somewhere else? sorry to be a pain, i just really want to learn, and at the same time i don't want to screw up my computer lol
