Is there a way to set a specific DT for any piece of armor?

Hey all. I was wondering if there is a way to set a specific DT for any piece of armor either through console commands or mods. I ask as I recently started a new game and am using a modded piece of armor from the beginning as I like the way it makes my character look. The problem is that, with a DT of 28, playing at the beginning of the game, I'm way too overpowered and it's making the game way too easy even on the harder difficulty settings. If I could set the DT for this piece of armor somewhere to a lower level it'd be great. Sorry if this is something that is common knowledge as I'm a bit of a noob at this stuff.

Thanks again.

You will need the New Vegas GECK, which you can use to modify any items in the game or a mod. Ill give you a example of how to do this based on my own setup (windows 7 steam copy of NV.)

place the geck in the following location (unless game is installed otherwise, basicly open it up until you see the data folder, unpack the GECk into the same folder as it is stored in.)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas

When the GECK is installed double click on the GECK application to launch it, this will basicly launch the game in GECK format (I know not accurate but its a basic way to explain it for none techies.) So it will take a few minutes. Once it is done on the top of the main screen go to File, then DATA.

A new window will appear with a list of the Falloutnv.esm and any mod .esm files you have, double click on one to add a X mark before it or to remove said mark, This obviously means which ones you want to load. Since you only want to modify one item, simply unmark all of them, find the mod that has the desired item, mark it, and then on the bottom left hit "Set as Active File" then hit OK.

Give it a few minutes to load, Depending on content and system, it can take up to 10-15 minutes.

You will notice several windows have populated, select the one labeled; "Object Window" On this window find on the left hand pane the list named ITEM, then under it the one named ARMOR. Now there are several ways to do it at this point. The easiest is right above that pane you will see a box labeled Filter typing in the item name as it appears in game should bring the item up on a list, no need to hit enter, just give it a minute. If not, look through the sub menus in armor and try to find it the long way. Key to remember is that Editor ID field on the right is not the name of the armor in game but a designer referance. While Name is infact what you would see in game.

Once you find it, double click on it, that will expand the item properties and what not. Look to the left hand side, Youll see a series of listed values in a column right next to those values youll see DT is listed under Putdown Sound (you do not need to click anything, just keep going down from that point visualy and you will see it.) At this point you can input any value you wish, just hit ok on the bottom left when your done, then go back up to FILE, and SAVE. This should overwrite the original mod so that your new value takes effect with all copys of the armor in question. Keep in mind if you have more then one type of the armor, such as with the Desert armor mod, where there are several diffrent variants of helm, you will have to modify each and every entry in the ITEM>ARMOR section to correct them all.
