Aulliwyn
Hello, So, last night after I successfully finished the Thieves Guild beginning quest I decided to go lurking through the local homes in the Temple District in the Imperial City in order to steal enough goods to sell so I can get going on my first special job. First house went smoothly without incident. Same for their neighbors (though they were home sleeping :P) until I went out their door and shortly after, crash, "Oblivion has stopped working". Luckily an auto save occurred shortly before this crash so naturally I went to load it. It got to the point with a full loading bar and I could make out the shift of music that provided the notion that I was almost fully loaded. Then, crash:Oblivion has stopped working: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Oblivion.exe Application Version: 1.2.0.416 Application Timestamp: 462392c7 Fault Module Name: Oblivion.exe Fault Module Version: 1.2.0.416 Fault Module Timestamp: 462392c7 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 001fcbe5 OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 27c8 Additional Information 2: 27c8ce5af7a07bedf550bd9c573901b3 Additional Information 3: e56e Additional Information 4: e56e9cfaf3cd1084b6b4c016d12ce64c Well let me express some of my gaming behavior. I am a sucker for real time, or close to real time games so I will toy with the console "set timescale to 1" but back to 30 if, say, I am waiting for 8pm to roll around so I can go cloak and dagger while following the shifty owner to the Copious Coinpurse. But I do not know if this would contribute to my current dilemma. I am also able to load previous saves (sadly many hours prior to my most current one) but I am nervous that I will again spend so much time to only have this issue again develop. I have always used Wyre Bash and according to it my saves are in the purple and the modlist is in the blue. I still tried to use the Abomb and Remove Bloat options. It also says there are 4 mods that can be merged together but I forget how to merge them:"Mergeable Following mods are active, but could be merged into the bashed patch. • ln.esp • MaleBodyReplacerV4.esp • RTFemaleReplacerV12.esp • Slof's Manly Stride.esp " I read some things that it can be an issue with my resolution so I change it from my native resolution of 1920x1080 to something else but that did not help. Another tip was to go to compatibility mode and tick the "Disable Desktop Composition" box. Again, nothing. Another one said to just delete the oblivion.ini file...I did that too and something funny happened. I expected to have to redo all my video settings which I did but I also have large percentages on each settings slider. Also the font, most noticeably the load game saves font, is larger than normal to the point nearly overlaps...so something screwy happened by just deleting the oblivion.ini. Hickory
First of all, when you delete your ini you must run the game from the launcher so that the ini can be properly initialized. Next, disable autosave on rest, wait and travel -- on unstable Oblivion installs these can cause corrupt saves or crashes -- yes, you may have a corrupt autosave. Regarding your Bashed Patch, when you press 'Rebuild Patch', make sure that you check the following: Merge PatchesImport ... [Go through each 'import' option and if there's a mod in the right window, check it, and the Import... option.] Contents CheckerLeveled ListsRace Records The Globals and Tweaks are optional, but should not be checked unless you know what you are doing. Everything else should be left unchecked UNLESS you know that you need it.
Aulliwyn
Interesting. So because of my mods I could have an unstable oblivion install and a way to avoid crashes and corrupt saves I simply need to disable all auto save features? is there any way I can restore a corrupt save even when wyre bash claims all is well? Hickory
Wrye Bash is not claiming that all is well with your saves, other than they match your current installed mods, and are in standard format. A save can be corrupt but still look valid to Wrye Bash. And, no, there is no way to restore a corrupt save. Wrye Bash can perform certain tasks on a save file, but fixing corruption is not one of them, since it has no way of knowing how it is corrupted -- it could be a simple flag inside the save, for example. Autosave on rest etc. are a known timebomb for crashes and corruption on unstable or underpowered systems. This is not to say that disabling auto save will stop crashes -- far from it. It just means that you have to remember to save often, and not rely on autosaves. You should also not rely on quicksaves, because only one is kept, and every time you quicksave the previous one is overwritten.
Aulliwyn
How dare you say my system is underpowered or unstable :verymad: So that's some bad news :ermm: Guess I gotta use the save from hours before...It couldn't be Norton could it? I always have that running in the background but sometimes I swear it bullies my legit programs.
alphatau
Worth a shot, I know AVG caused a lot of game problems for me. (Not only Oblivion but other games too).

You should always disable antivirus while playing games, but make sure you disconnect from the internet to be safe.
