Fallout 3 crashes a lot, when I try to use the d3d9.dll file the game doesnt start and a command prompt window opens and closes repeatedly

So as the title says, my game crashes a lot. I decided to use Fallout 3 Windows 7 and 8 fix, but with the d3d9 file my game wont start, but a command prompt window keeps opening and closing, until I delete the d3d9 file and my game starts up. I havent had anything else fix the errors, and I think this will. It is also worth mentioning I do have FOSE installed.

Is that fix really needed? Fallout 3 works perfectly fine for me on WIndows 8.1 w/o it.

 

What IS needed if you have a multicore processor are a couple of edits to the Fallout.ini in Documents/My Games/Fallout3:

 

Under General, change:

 

bUseThreadedAI=0

 

to

 

bUseThreadedAI=1

 

And add this line under it:

 

iNumHWThreads=2

 

If you don't make those changes, the game is very unstable with multicore processors.
