brokenergy
Say that it's a deep story where you must explore your inner-self and figure out your pathway in life. Or you could annoy them for a while till they say yes.
Vindekarr
Converting non gamers to gamers can be simple an complex. What you have to do is simply explain it to them as a hobby-if you're playing and they go to talk to you, do them the curtosey of stopping, turing and looking at them, and giving them as long to talk to you as they need to get the point across. Dont make it look like it dominates your life, make it look like a fun hobby/sport and maybe drop a few hitns asking if they too play, andyou've set the groundwork to get virtualy anyone hooked. The next part is, if step one works, is to find out what game ton show them-this is vital, pick something along the lines of their interests, but that is also a showcase of gaming at it's finest. For the artisticaly inclined, try MineCraft, for those with a thing for action movies, try Bad Company II, for those with a fondness for motoring, try Need For Speed Hot Pursuit, for those with Einstein's mental capacity and a cat's patience, try EVE online. For those of the casual subset, try WoW, StarWars Battlefront II, Torchlight, or Borderlands- these more casual-style games are also ideal choices for those with non-gaming designed computers, they are every bit as entertaining as the others, but are optimised for lower SYSREQs and require a much smaller time commitment. Find them the game you think fits their personality the best, and then give em a brief look around, make it seem casual. IF they seem interested, let them borrow it for a few days-(in the case of EVE you can actualy hand out free TimeCards to give them a month in game-if they like it, they can simply swap to a paid sub after the trial period without having to buy a copy)-Idealy you'll want to start them off casual, give them lots of help, and just generaly show them a new hobby. In time however, like a spider wrapping it's prey up in a web, you can entrap them in the inescapable realm of HardCore Gaming, and make them gaming BloodChargers for life. Using this system, I've turned every girl I've ever dated(4) my parents, eleven friends and my university english teacher into casual gamers, and eventualy hardcores. satanslilhelper
One thing that can be useful to do is compare it to watching a movie or watching television. Explain that when you are playing a game, at least you are using your brain!

Illiad86
Vindekarr explained it just as how I would  What's hard for me is to get people off the stinking consoles and get them to play games on the PC :P My uncle refuses lol, and he's got a pretty decent computer, all he would need is a graphics card. He always says it's "impossible to play on the keyboard and mouse". I keep on trying to tell him that the accuracy is better, the controls are all pretty much the same (WASD, shift, etc.), but he don't listen lol. bben46
Tell him the reason they don't have FPS PC vs Console matches is because the console players don't have a chance against the keyboard & Mouse. The mismatch is so bad that a mediocre PC player can easily beat the best console players. CommanderCrazy
And the console kids would blame i on hacks and aimbots right?

Here is the link: http://www.rahulsood.com/2010/07/console-gamers-get-killed-against-pc.html I told him that and showed him that exact same article, he still didn't believe me. He likes to play Gears of War or something like that, I told him if we could face off I'd kill him in a matter of seconds with no experience in the game :P He saw me play TF2 once and said "the mouse is too sensitive"...and I laughed at him and said "that's why they have mouse sensitivity options" He claims the controllers are better than what they used to be. Last console I played on was a PS2. I still can't see myself playing any FPS on a console though, even Oblivion... how the heck do you aim?!
