DevM
Hi, Im new to this forums and I have been playing Oblivion since it came out (well not everyday, but sometimes i just feel to install it again) I have never installed any mods, I have a better pc now so I would like to try some graphic mods or any mods besides graphic mods that you guys think it's good or necessary, I would like some new oblivion experience :D, I will wait for your responses :D. EDIT: yes i have seen many pages of mods, most of them with the links to dl broken, and i have seen the list in the top, but none of those mods seemed appealing. tinylampe
Ok this is going to be a post about MY favourite mods. All of them are big files and most of them change the game radically. I encourage you to read more about them before trying them so that you have something more than my opinion to judge. Having said that, happy reading (yeah, it's a long post) My favourite graphic mods: Qarls Texture Pack The game will look 2 years newer with this. It makes a HUGE difference visually speaking. Animated Window Lighting System Just visit a city at night and enjoy the beautiful light coming from the building's windows. Real Lava This one seems a minor thing until you go to oblivion. Then you will cry tears of joy ;) Natural Environments Better sky (at night), better vegetation, better weather. My favourite overhauls: Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul It changes the game experience dramatically. Enemies no longer level with you, wich means that you can find foes that are weaker than you and foes that are (much) stronger at any level. Same goes for loot. You can find really good loot at early levels, but this will be if you can take it from the super-strong enemies that carry it. Example: you can find a level-34 vampire with an enchanted glass longsword in some remote dungeon...regardlessly of the fact that you are still level 1!. This mod also adds new quests, NPC's, armors and weapons. It also tweaks much aspects of the original game to make it more challenging and rewarding. Deadly Reflex This is a combat overhaul. It gives new moves to your character, from the ability to decapitate enemies and cut them in half (all in slow motion) to the power to burn them alive with magic. Every type of weapon (blades, blunts, bows) has unique finishing moves. I recommend that you use version 5.0 but you are free (and encouaged) to choose which version to use if any. Oblivion XP update This is a mod that changes the way your character levels. Instead of improving your skills by using them, this mod offers an EXPERIENCE system. Now each time you kill an enemy or perform certain actions (gaining fame, completing quests, opening locked chests etc) you are rewarded with experience points. When you have enough, you can level up and, at that point and not before, use a fixed ammount of skill points and attribute points to boost your skills and attributes. It's very different from vanilla oblivion as you can see, but I and many others like it more. Edited January 31, 2011 by tiny lampe

tinylampe
Thx :D for the comments ^^, gonna try tiny lamp. EDIT: just one little question is qarls texture pack by parts? If you want to download it from tesnexus, then yes. There're 11 parts or so. Alternatively you can go to "mirrors" (instead of "files") and you will get a link to planetelderscrolls. There you can download a single 2gb-and-something file.

tinylampe
thx, for all the help :). EDIT : didn't work any help wouudl be great, first of all i read the readme i guess obmm is oblvivion mod managar? wich is dl and it says i can't use it totaly because of the admin rights? but i have those >.<, im saying this because the installation readme says so, right tiny? xD. Ok...let's see: 1. If you talk about admin rights I guess you either have vista or win7 as you OS. In this case, I'd strongly recommend that you install oblivion OUTSIDE the 'x86 program files' folder. Don't install in 'program files' either. Instead, to the following: go to c:\ and create a new folder there, call it for example "games". Then install oblivion inside "games". All the problems regarding admin rights and the like will vanish. 2. Obmm is oblivion mod manager, yes. The fact is that qarls comes in a special format called "omod-ready". I don't know if you are familiar with it but, in any case, to make it work you need to go to oblivion>obmm>mods (create this folder if it isn't there) and, inside 'mods', paste the qarls file you downloaded. Then you go to the modmanager application and you will see qarls file at your right. A green icon should be preciding the name of the file. By clicking on the file, an extraction process will start and the mod will be installed. You haven't finished though! For it to work properly you need to do an archiveinvalidation. There is a paragraph explaining how to do that in the link I gave to you in my first post. Let me copy-paste it here for you: Extract the OMOD to your C:...\Oblivion\obmm\mods folder. Then, start up OBMM, and double click on the mod to activate it. After you have activated it, click on Utilities then Archive Invalidation. Click the bubble for BSA alteration, check mark the box for Textures, and check mark the box for Generate archiveinvalidation entries on hash collision. If you want to know why you did all that, scroll down to number 4 in Qarl's Installation section in his readme (which I have included with the download), and he explains it a little more. NOTE: The mod might take a while to install, this is normal, and its just because this is such a big file. Hope this helps.

luxwing0go
If you're looking for mods that add to immersion, Enhanced Water v20 HDMI and Alive Waters are both fun to have, along side Natural Environments. For good item graphic replacements, might I suggest: Leviathan SoulgemsAlluring Potion Bottles (there is a separate file that works with OOO )Alluring Wine BottlesCrystal Glass RetextureBook Jackets (There are also versions for Knights of the Nine, Shivering Isles and Spell Tomes) For bodies, I use Robert's v.5 (you can get it in the AMB compilation) and HGEC. (And if you use HGEC...) Good luck finding all the mods you want! Edited February 1, 2011 by luxwing0go
