tatts24
@LHammonds, I like modelling and art, it helps to sooth the mind after a hard days work. And I am glad I can help out. :) @Sankojin and The_Vyper, Believe me so am I. I have spent a lot of hrs on this texture so far, but in the end I think it'll all be worth it. I love the detail on this sword, and working on it reminds me of tattooing which I stopped doing a few years ago, pretty much around the same time I decided to get into 3D. I love Oblivion and rate it as my all time favourite game (so far) I've played it many times over and owned it for the 360, ps3 and now PC lol. yeah I am and have been hooked to this game for awhile now. Until Skyrim comes out anyway. :) Thank you guys for the compliments. :)
sankojin
I cant believe how well you did so fare on the tsuba. I bet just doing that part took you a long time. I love how much time your putting into this and the detail. I also love Oblivion, I too own it on pc, xbox and ps3. the only reason why i own an xbox was because of Oblvion and i cant wait to get Skyrim. Keep up the great work Tatts24 :)
tatts24
Ok, I thought I would give yet another update. I have been working a lot lately so I have not had as much time for this. But still working on this whatever chance I do get. I've remodelled the tsuba, and also modelled the scabbard. no uvmap for the scabbard yet. the texture still has a lot of work to go. There is a lot of detail in this sword and I am not sure what I was thinking when I have decided to actually go ahead and try to draw this out. But I am glad I did, I got a lot of practice in gimp with its path tool. Very useful for drawing nice clean lines with.
LHammonds
That is indeed a lot of nice detail work you've done. I hope you're going to update the UV a bit and give some face time to the edges. ;-) If a common base color is used near and on the edges, you can probably get away with not having the UVs actually connected to the top edges and thus avoid perturbing the existing UVs with the artwork already done. sankojin
This has to be the best looking sword i have seen so fare for Oblivion!
ub3rman123
What's the polycount on it? Looks high, particularly on the tsuba of it. Are you planning on lowering it later to bake into the normals?
tatts24
@LHammonds, the tsuba was just a real simple UV so I could get a quick picture of it for this post. :) I had actually just finished modelling it before I posted this update. Everything will have a proper uvmap by the time it is finished. @ub3rman123, Comparing to some other mods of swords that I have personally downloaded and played with, this sword I think is reasonably low. right now it sits at about 9600 polygons or 4800 faces. That is including the geometry for the Scabbard. I may reduce it a bit, but really I don't think that'll be necessary. As for the normal map, I'll be creating that from the texture. I have the texture saved in layers, one for the background, line work, and shading. Once the line work is completely finished I'll most likely clone it and create a bump map with it then save out as a normal map. The original is always going to be kept in layers since I plan to model the other swords in the future. @Sankojin, I know this is taking a little while to complete, but this sword for me has gone beyond just an ordinary mod. It is a work of art to me and therefore I think it is best to take my time with it and try and do the best I can with it. I personally will probably never d/l another sword mod again. And I really hope I am going to be able to get this sword into Skyrim when it is released. I plan to reserve a copy of it soon. :) Anyway thanks again for the compliments and I hope to have this done soon.
sankojin
I really don’t mind at all Tatts24 on how long this is taking. If anything I am happy that your putting this much time and effort into this mod for me. I wanted someone to make the mod for me that was going to take there time and make it very detailed. Well i hoped for that, I didn’t really expect to find someone that was going to do even half of what your doing. So I am happy as can be that you’re doing such an amazing job with this. I also was really hoping that you could make this for Skyrim when it came out as well and now I'm twice as happy as before. So please take your time, I am in no hurry at all :)
ub3rman123
Pity you won't be able to see most of the beautiful inscribing on the hilt when it's being held.
