hoofhearted4
i LOVED fallout 3 (on the ps3) i played through 3 times and platinumed the game, and sunk many hours into the game. i was very excited about FONV but didnt have the money when it came out. a little over 3 months later and i have the money, but ive heard some bad things about it. reviews of it were good, not great, but good. i have a few friends that loved fallout3 like me, but hated FONV, and a couple that liked FONV. if i get FONV im getting it for PC this time around (i wanna mess with mods and whatnot) but im just unsure if ill like it. so the similarities are obvious between FO3 and FONV, but what are the differences. does this feel like a post apocalyptic wasteland? is there reason to play through multiple times. why should i buy FONV? thanks guys. looking forward to all your input in the game. be as lengthy and in depth as you want. idc about spoilers if you feel the need to include them. it might just help me decide to buy it or not. idk. Fatalmasterpiece
Gameplay wise it is a great improvement. There are a lot of things added which were only available through mods for FO3, but since they are built in it's seamless and there's no headaches for them. This also opens up more opportunities for modders and I think you will find that mods are pushing the boundries of whats possible more so than what was even available for FO3. As far as storyline... eh, I don't think it's so great, and the world wasn't built nearly as well... It is a much different "feel". I would say it feels more like a Fallout tribute than a bonified Fallout game. In that respect however it can be very fun because there's a lot of lore there to be found and enjoyed. So in short, I think they dropped the ball on atmosphere and plot. The game just doesn't have that dark feel of danger and disparity which should be dripping in a post apocalyptic wasteland. But it's great for modding and playing through adventure wise. If the money is that big of a deal for you I would skip it. If you would just buy some other game I would say go for it. I'm going on 200 hours right now and still enjoying it, I probably had 4-6 hundred on FO3.
Dasim4
It's better than FO3 in some ways and worse in others. You can tell it's made by a different group. In some ways it's a good thing because they added in some cool stuff like all the interaction with the different factions. They also put in a few things that were modded into FO3 like iron sites and weapon mods. But the game world isn't nearly as varied or interesting as the one in Fallout 3. It's more domesticated and much less threatening in most places. It has it's moments but they are too spread out to keep the momentum going for very long. Also they made poor use of the game world, leaving huge areas completely unused. Because of this, and the fact that there are very few underground areas, the map is small compared to the one in Fallout 3. There's a decent amount of exploration but not nearly the level that FO3 had. I was disappointed by this most of all. That said I've really enjoyed this game. I've got about 150 hours between two characters atm and still playing on my second one. There are enough new things about it to keep it interesting and I've also had fun adding in mods here and there to change things up a bit. If you really enjoyed FO3 I would probably recommend this but if your money is really tight you may want to pass at least until they come out with a final package that includes all the DLC content that is supposed to be coming. hoofhearted4
well see i already have FONV for ps3. i played a couple of hours and i just cant get into it. i think im lvl 3 or 4. what REALLY sucks is you dont get a perk every lvl which makes the lvling boring. in FO3 it was like ok i want this perk this perk and this one. so every lvl you have something to look forward to. so money isnt an issue as i would just trade in FONV for ps3 for the PC version. (which ive read there is a mod to gain a perk every level. already a bonus) i just asked this to see what people really thought about NV compared to FO3. i think ill end up getting NV regardless and while my laptop is more then capable of handling the game. i think ill wait until i build my own PC this summer. this also lets me play DA2 and ME2 (which im getting for ps3 i think not 100% sure on it though) thanks for your input guys. if anyone else has anything to add feel free! Thanks! :D

Thanks! :D Ahh I see. I never buy these games for my consoles simply because of the mods and being able to use the console to fix the inevitable bugs. Just something as simple as getting stuck in terrain would drive me nuts on the console. Nothing against consoles. I play a lot of games on them. But Oblivion, Fallout 3, and FONV had to be on PC because I knew the modding community would do wonderful things with them and they have. And yes there's a mod to have a perk every level along with another mod to let you keep playing once the main story is over if you want. There are already a lot of good mods out there. It has transformed my game and I've really enjoyed messing around with them. It's one of my favorite parts of these games. It adds so much replay value to them. minngarm
Id say FO3 vs NV is like a home grilled hamburger vs a resteraunt style one, sure the first one may have a few burnt spots on it but its rich and thick with flavor. While the second (NV) Is certainly done far better (gameplay and mechanics) it lacks that special flavor you get from something made out on your own grill (the fluff is weak in comparison and its not as immersive.)
