Pyrosocial
What I don't understand is that everyone seems to think Obama is a hack, or worthless, when the fact is he has done a good deal for our country. Obama isn't getting rich, in fact a regular doctor makes more om average then most presidents. I agree trump seems to be acting like a baby; crying to get attention, but if he can get us out of the current economic situation, then awesome. Do I think he is better than obama? No, obama has done a lot with what he was given. Bush is prolly in texas saying "hey, I screwed you all over, but thanks for blaming it on the black guy". I personally think that instead of one figurehead we should have a council of four "presidents", that way each can work on an area of their expirtise, like international conflicts, economy, ect. Aurielius
I personally think that instead of one figurehead we should have a council of four "presidents", that way each can work on an area of their expirtise, like international conflicts, economy, ect. I am reminded of the Roman Republic which elected two Consuls. Usually one Consul handled economic affairs and the other foreign policy. this was not a codified system but one of pragmatic practice. However in times of utmost crisis the senate would usually return to the principle of singular rule and elect a single overarching leader a 'Dictator' for a limited term. The point that I am making is that rule by collective has an inherent flaw of not being able to respond quickly and decisively during times of crisis. The other example which again the late Roman Empire provides is the period of the Four Emperors which in the end run lead to the dissolution of the western Roman Empire. I personally think that the balance of power established by means of the tripod of power that the founding fathers gave us works quite fine. The problem is ours not the system, we elect the president and if we pick one that has no executive experience who never manged a city or a state then we got what we deserved. Our current leader never even introduced a single piece of legislation so lacked even that level of experience either. Though I am not sanguine that Trump has the perquisite experience in dealing with a legislature, he will not be able to just say' your are fired' to congressional leaders that do not obey his dictates. yoba333
IMaybe, MAYBE one day someone will run for President who will stand up for the values and interests of all Americans, not just the his friends, the party that elected him, or his business partners. I don't think Trump qualifies. Politics is too messed up now for this to happen. I hate how we place so much emphasis on political parties, and how political parties attach themselves to certain views, and if you disagree with these views you are practically not in the party at all. HeyYou
The country isn't run by the politicians any more. Its run by corporations. Those that have the money to make sure their candidate wins. And once in office, it becomes all about re-election.... so, in order to ensure that, the incumbent needs to make sure that his financial backers are happy. Then we have lobbyists....... people paid (some of them) millions of dollars per year, to attempt to get favored legislation passed. Once again, it comes down to "Whomever has the money, makes the rules." Voting isn't a choice. It doesn't decide anything. It merely gives people the illusion that they have some "control" over the direction the country takes. Of late, I see very little difference in where we are headed now, as when the 'other' party was in charge. We have a new war going on, when we are still involved in the first two. Think I am wrong? Then, answer me this: Why is it, that an industry that posts record profits, EVERY quarter, for the last decade or so, STILL gets US government subsidies? Why is it, that in a time when unemployment is at an all-time high, the government is STILL giving tax breaks to corporations for "creating jobs in developing nations", which quite literally translates to: "MOVING jobs to developing nations."???? Nope, America is on the fast track to third-world nation status. We are going to bury ourselves in debt, legislate our jobs to other countries. And all the while, think that it is someone elses fault that we are going down the tubes. At this point, China could tank the entire US with one simple phrase: "We are calling your loans due." They would instantly destroy the US, without a single shot being fired.
