Fallout 3 crashing at random parts of the game

Recommended Posts

Hey!

as the title of this post says, I've been experiencing random crashes in this game since I went out of the vault, and it's getting pretty annoying.

mods I have:

  • Ambient Wasteland
  • CONELRAD 640-1240
  • GNR enhanced
  • Hi-Res Weapons
  • NMC's Texture Pack
  • Pipboy 3000 HD retexture
  • Fallout Stutter Remover 4.0.7
  • Fallout Stutter Remover 4.1.36
  • Updated Unofficial fallout 3 patch
  • Zan AutoPurge Crash Protector
  • Fallout 3 - Enhanced Camera
  • Realistic Walking
  • Fallout Street Lights

Computer Specs:

  • windows 8.1
  • Intel Core i3-4350 3.60GHz
  • 8Gb of RAM
  • GeForce GT 730

I've tried all the fixes I could find:

  • I've changed the fallout.ini file (bUseThreadedAI=1 and iNumHWThreads=2), I've also tried setting iNumHWThreads to 1
  • I've applied the 4GB ram patch to the game
  • I've installed ENBoost
  • I've changed d3d9.dll to a newer one
  • I'm using the borderless windowed mod
  • I've cleaned up all the DLCs using FOSE

I've reached a point where all the only fix I find is the ini fix and I don't really know what to do, does anybody have any ideas?

FO3 crashes randomly anyway, no matter how stable you get it. All you can do is learn to save a lot and live with it. Maybe decrease the NMC pack you're using (from large to medium and so on).

If these are specifically the "only mods" you have?

I can only attempt to replicate the problem here.

from that list, I can draw this conclusion....it is way over the top for graphic Enhancements. you have there built in redundancies, you have counter productiveness too.

suggestions: start over and do not clean stuff, leave default data, all mods built as they are delivered..I am saying this because to think you need to clean stuff is to say you know better than the authors that built it in the first place.

From this post I can assume, and this is dumb to do, you have an intel chipset too.

you use what is available or you use whats sitting in the windows/system's directory in the game folder. "d3d9.dll"

there is now way to determine your bug with that much over programing done to the game.

so post the links to the exact links / downloads you are using as posted here and I will download and test them to sort it out for you.

All I can offer with Over kill.

what do you mean by "built in redundancies" and "counter productiveness"?

the only things I've cleaned were the DLCs and it was crashing just as much before, so I don't know if that caused any problems

why is it dumb to have an intel chipset? (I don't even know what it is)

I got the link to the d3d9.dll on a guide, I think it was on a steam guide

don't fix the game before playing it first.

Basic's 101 ,establish vault 101 exit and hard save .once done install the mods.

  • The mods consists of just mods, things that make the game look and sound better.
  • Bug fixes. those go last if needed ,but you need to establish first if the mods you chose are at fault ,and you can't do that if you installed bug fixers.
  • Run this game default vanilla and repair it as needed.
  • Files get overwritten, sound files too.
  • Bug fixer UF3P contains repaired files so it's installed order is where things get messy, we don't know what order you installed this in?
  • We Don't know what got over written ,and therefore redundancies show up, over kill.
  • How do you know that video will fix your system? every ones system will be "different" therefore the results will be as it is, your here asking for help because of the fact it was redundant.
  • Intel chip-set is what your PC uses for graphics interface, and sound system mixers. Your PC's mother board equipment, the chip that shows stuff on the screen.
  • Who made the PC, what kind is it ,how much ram do you use or even have, your using so many tweaks, fancy ultra edits to a game and don't know what I'm talking about? Whoa...back up a bit ans start over like I said.

hmm, know what, I'll step aside and let some one else deal with you.

Why? because you install the game and run it first. then add mods..and run it first .IF it breaks you find out why "first" then you add bug fixes and again you run it first.

You have to know what your doing to modify Engine tweaks and go hog wild modding it....and then state you have no idea what I'm talking about?

really? you wanted help, that's a lot of data to stuff into a game before running it.

That's a lot of data to run before finding out whats wrong too. You need to find out, a video won't show you.

I've done that, I've started installing mods 4/5 hours into the game

is d3d9.dll the one that messes with videos?

that PC was build last year, I've asked on reddit what PC I could build with about 800

I have:

- windows 8.1

- GeForce GT 730

installing mods using NMM isn't hard

This file controls how the game uses the desktop display drivers. IF you do not use this file ,that job will fault to defacto files resident on the system, usually the same file that is used by your browser that is set to default.

This file controls 3d activity and is part of Direct-x, a version of it.

now, if you search your PC's sub folders with in windows, you will find several copies of that file ,each may in fact be of a different size.

Take Note here: this file is not part of this games installed software except the DX install...DX9c.

Why this file was chosen is because a grate deal of research was conducted by the author to find it and fix it for a chip set that would not render this game, even though the manufacture plainly stated it should render the games software.

There too much information to post on this 1 item only.

Intel Core i3-4350 3.60GHz

2 reasons to do the following.

  1. Item suggested. set core usage to 1 core only with that processor..Just one core in infinity, this is accessed by alt tabbing out, right clicking the task bar, and opening up the task manager ,browse your way to the settings needed for the game engine, select the engine and set "infinity to use only 1 core. and continue.
  2. GeForce GT 730 and windows 8.1 default do not have the correct graphics driver s installed so right there is conflict #1 before the game even runs.

installing mods using NMM isn't hard

I am not even going to get involved in this topic...Windows 8.1 has that programs needs and wants Obsoleted to begin with ".NET

And this game does not require .net

IF it is steam? it's all built in that software.

The PC at best is marginal and you are doing what to it?

can I make you understand? I can only try...your lucky to even run this game on that rig, let alone modify it the way you are.

I do want you to Enjoy it, but If what you have posted is all true? then your in for a bad experience.

so, to lesson things a bit, you do this.

you set the games graphics to use a mid range settings, not high, you turn off AA all of that ,you set your PC's desktop screen res to 1024 x 768.

in game menus choose the display and set it to large. exit and reset and test.

NMM ,not gonna even try...Don't use it, seen way too much grief over it. It works for what it does, It can't fix this problem you have.

But you need to use only the games software to fix this problem and not use built in utilities that see miss configured data...that just makes it worse.

Fomm, is the default mod installer for this game, there are now two versions of it.

Mod organizer on the sky-rim website will also run this software Efficiently to a point, again subject to the graphics miss-configurations you have.

System device drivers will tell you IF you have VGA or GeFource GT 730 drivers installed, so will the task monitor while the game is running, .if it is even used.

------------------------

recap: set to lower settings and reduce graphics burdens ,the game will run faster and FPS will increase and it will also use less ram too.

Don't install MMC's packages until you find out the game will run at the lower settings flat out with out garbage holding you back.

that's a straight forward as I can make it
