MissBizz
Hey everyone! I have just started skyrim, and although had modded (didn't get very far in the game) I was still unimpressed with how the game looked. I wasn't sure if it's because all my mods weren't working (although some I could and did check by comparing images), or if I just had too high of hopes. I decided to do a clean install and ensure I do step by step this time. I was looking at the Modding Beginner's guide and noticed it recommends installing ENB even just for some performance enhancements. I had looked at youtube and found many samples of player's games modded with ENB. I also heard some may be outdated, or may cause major issues. As long as I ensure it's not user error, do you think my PC could handle running UNB? Oh, as well, I do record gameplay using OBS as well. I just figured if I was going through the tweaking for performance enhancements, maybe I should just go full out. I5-4690K (OC'd to 4.2 currently)MSI GTX 770 Twin Frozr (2GB, OC)8GB ramWindows 8.1Running Skyrim on a 7200rpm HD I guess I'm just not sure what the ENB is heavy on, CPU usage? GPU usage? If you figure I could run with ENB, how careful so I need to be about finding up to date presets?
Boombro
First of all use enb man for easy enb changing. It a enb manger. It all up to taste, enb offers so many visual options. Ranging from changing lighting, color enrichment and detailed shadows, to completely changing the game atmosphere to make it brighter or gloomy, adding lens and making your character model CGI like. The hit is on the gpu mostly. ENBS presets vary and ranges from low hitting-to only good for screenshots because it now 15 fps setups. Your gpu is able to run most presets at play-able setting. For the up to date issue, there is no problem in running an old enb on a newer enb files at all. Expect when talking some enb that were made for specific files so they will not effect fps that much. You cannot however, ruse a old enb dll file for an enb built on newer enb dll files. Any questions?
MissBizz
Makes sense to me. It's not the ENB itself that make the performance hit, it's the setting people tweak in order to get it to look a certain way? Interesting, seems like it would be a lot of trial and error to find one that isn't super performance hungry. I have been looking at some presets and although some do mention system minimums, they all seem to try to say they are trying to not be a huge hit to performance. I guess I'll dig deeper and see if I can figure out if any presets I like are low hittinh :) Thanks for the info.
Boombro
Yes, Enb adds effects that are not in Skyrim like SSMA, AO and many others that effect performance greatly.I have tested many enbs, what are you looking for?
BlackRoseOfThorns
Most recent Enb binary files come with Enboost integrated in it. This tool helps the game engine utilize ram and vram more efficiently. You will have to edit enblocal.ini manualy and type your amount of "vram + ram -2048" (videomemorysizemb=8192 in your case) and set AutodetectVideoMemorySize=false. Since your card has only 2gb or vram, I would start with performance presets. My recommendation:-Clarity Enb-Straylight Enb (very close to vanilla colors)-Grim and Somber - Vaermina Performance (showed it to my friend with gtx 650ti and he loved it)-Tranquility Extended FX (if you turn down AO, shadows, skylightning)
MissBizz
Well, I'd prefer something more on the lightweight side, if you mean more of how I like the "look" of the game. From what I have seen - I don't care for overly saturated colors (I feel like the grass is neon in some of them), nor do I care to make the world bleak (Bleak ENB). Some that I've seen that I enjoy are Project ENB, realvision, sharpshooters extreme, and I REALLY like Natural Lighting and Atmospheres ENB. Some of the water (and sky) maybe looks a bit too blue in that one, but it seems to be the one I like most overall. Another question - with an ENB - I have noticed some make indoors/night extremely dark, will I be able to counter that myself with other light mods, or is changing something like that in the ENB simple enough for anyone to do with some solid googling? Since from what I have seen you are still able to overlay lighting mods over the ENB, I'm hoping I could counter it that way.
MissBizz
Thanks BlackRoseOfThorns, I haven't seen videos of those, so I shall check them out now!
BlackRoseOfThorns
Np  Just make sure to read description page of each Enb preset  They tend to require certain lightning mods or on some occasions are incopatible with lightning/weather mods. I like the best standalone presets with tweaked weathers, since they don't have problems with weird colors when the lightning changes.Tip: They should work fine with Expanded Skyrim Weather - Edits regional weather instead of lightning. Straylight Enb should work with Pure Weather.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJF7h-pmSjc Darkness of Enb can be changed by pressing Shift+Enter (Shift+Tab or Ctrl+Tab for some presets on rare occasion) and editing ambientlightning day/night. Bloom softens image and makes surfaces brighter, but not all presets support tweaking it. If you have problem with grass color get Verdant grass plugin 1.6 (much softer than vanilla/sfo grass). You can pick either 512 res standard color or 512 res dark texture pack from optional files. For water try Realistic Water Two. Don't install Watercolor plugin, if you're gonna use weather mods - it tend to produce weird colors.
MissBizz
After looking I think Clarity is pretty good, grim and somber was a little too dreary for my tastes. Slightly off question, I am using this guidehttp://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/56894/? And near the end it asks to turn my Nvidia vsync settings (for Skyrim) to "Application controlled". I don't have that option though  I have..-use 3d application setting-off, -on-adapative-adaptive (half refresh rate) Any suggestions? NNevermind. I need to do some serious looking into.. no mater what I change.. the ENBoost kills my frames :/ Edited July 14, 2015 by MissBizz
BlackRoseOfThorns
Pick 3d application setting. Since you rolled out Grim and Somber Enb try Revamped Exterior Fog or Remove Exterior Fog mod (I use the latter one, it removes completly progressive desaturation) together with Clarity. It will make the LOD look a lot better.
