An NPC died unexpectedly.

Ahh ... so this must be a shop added by a mod. In any case, as pointed out by others, in Oblivion sometimes bad things happen to good people. Falling from bridges, getting ambushed by bandits while travelling or running into a guy like me can ruin their day. Next thing you know they're laying in the street, stinking the place up. Some will disappear when the cell resets, others will stick around until you reformat your hard drive (kidding ... don't do that to get rid of them). If you have one who just lays there forever (e.g. the above mentioned Toutius Sextius) you can open the console (using the tilde key ~) and then click on them with the mouse. This will bring their refID into the top of the screen (for our friend Toutius that would be 000293F8). Once the refID is displayed type 'disable' and hit enter. Close the console and they're gone.

If instead you'd rather enjoy their sparkling company again you can use the 'resurrect 1' command instead (after clicking them as above to get their refID displayed). This will bring them back to life (as an aside, using the '1' after resurrect allows them to stand up from where they're laying, with the benefit of keeping all their stuff).

As I said, Oblivion is a dangerous place for the poor NPCs. When I see one laying by the roadside I'll usually give them a little console lovin'. If I run across one hiking down the road while I'm going walk-about I'll usually provide escort (after all, I'm the one who makes the bad guys spawn near the roads when I walk by ... it's the least I can do). Then there's those other times, when my bad side shows through and I just can't help myself. Hey, I wasn't the one who asked them to make it possible to reverse pick-pocket ... I'm just usin' all the tools.

I think this is both odd and really funny. While i was in Crucible, i walked by a guard and for no reason, She fell through the floor. I was wondering how'd that happen, so i looked around at the other guards and found them gone too. Every guard fell through the floor and died, Script error maybe?

This happened to me once before I cleaned out the mods in my Data folder:

I was returning from some mission in Anvil and walked into the inn, and while I was talking to Wilbur, he dropped dead. While I was talking! And he kept talking, too. When I exited the conversation, I looted his body and (I always drag bodies for fun) tried to drag him, but it did the weird melt/stretch thing, where you can grab their head and stretch it really far and their neck just stretches.

Wait...you can drag bodies?!?! HOW!!!!???!!!

Well make sure your crosshair is over a body, Hold Z most likely on an arm or leg, then use your mouse to drag them around. I think it's really fun to drag them over ledges or railings, then watch them fall to the ground.

Ah. Will try that. Thanks.

Will keep these commands in mind.

It is kind of lame that guards and such will walk right by dead bodies, but if I were walking down the street and saw a corpse, and there were police around, I'd probably just keep moving (granted the "police" in Oblivion never actually move the bodies that you see). It is kind of weird when people stand right next to the body though talking about mudcrabs or how the Altmer have powerful wizards and act like it's no big deal. If an NPC I need happens to be lying around dead when I locate them, I just use the "resurrect 1" command and just pretend they were passed out in the street, not dead (drunk perhaps) and my character revived them. Of course, if they are dead because they angered another NPC who is still around, better watch out, because they may get killed all over again...

Another 'paramedic player' ... good to see. Something else that bugs me is that not all bodies are persistent. For the longest time I couldn't figure out why I had a painted horse standing by the small bridge just outside Bravil on the road to Leyawiin. When I was doing the Ahdarji's Heirloom quest I went looking for Hildara Mothril but couldn't find her. I finally followed the quest marker for her, which lead me to the Bravil bridge. Turns out she accompanies Countess Alessia Caro on her jaunts to Chorrol to visit her mom and they probably ran afoul of the critters that spawn near the bridge. The Countess is marked essential until the heirloom quest is complete so she won't die earlier in the game. The Countess' bodyguard respawns if he dies but poor Hildara is left to the wolves. Funny thing is, a couple of times I tried to get rid of the paint horse by getting the orgres or minotaurs from Anutwyll to do my dirty work. Every time the dead horse would revive itself after a few days when the cell reset. So you can lose Hildara (who does play a small but non-quest breaking part in Ahdarji's Heirloom) but her horse will live on in perpetuity even if it dies. Go figure.

Carandial from the Bravil Mages Guild likes to camp out beside the Anutwyll ruin. Doesn't take long before he's a goner. His horse likes to hang out just north of Bravil after that. I'm considering going nuts with the console (SetOwnership) just so I can stable all these derelicts.

Break out the defib paddles ... CLEAR!!
