SkyeFlyer
I just got fonv today, and after installing and patching it I started playing. Everything was going good until I got out of the doctor's house. I was on my way to the saloon when the game froze for about 1 minute, then the screen went black. I couldn't alt-tab, ctrl-alt-del, or anything else to get out of it. The only thing that worked was turning off my pc. I've run the game several times since then, and I always get the same thing. Not always at the same spot, but I have yet to stay in the game for more than 5-6 minutes. My specs are: windows xp professional sp2 Amd athlon 64 x2 3800+ Nvidia geforce 9600gt 1GB RAM sound blaster audigy gamer card I've made sure all my game patches and hardware drivers are updated, and I even tried the community patch you guys made. Is there anything else I can do?
nik1000
I am having the same issue. My game was working perfectly with many mods and NVSE beta 6 until the mysterious update that took place a day or so ago. I updated to NVSE beta 7 as required but now I am experiencing some video stuttering, audio echoing and crashes to desktop every few minutes. Nothing has changed in my installation other than the update that was apparently applied by Steam, and the update to NVSE beta 7. I have troubleshot and tweaked everything I can think of. There appears to be a major bug (or bugs) that was introduced with this latest update. There is nothing more annoying than an update that breaks the game. And thoughts are appreciated. SkyeFlyer
But the main difference between you and I, nik1000, is that mine was doing it BEFORE I installed ANY patches. And also after. UPDATE: After further study I have noticed that this is the exact same problem I have been having with mass effect 1 and split/second. For both of those games, disabling my sound card in the device manager stops the freezes. Of course, this is unacceptable, as what fun is a game with no sound? It won't work for new vegas anyway. When I tried it, NV said it wouldn't run with no sound device. But perhaps this new tidbit of info will help someone find my solution? SkyeFlyer
UPDATE 2: I run my system with two linked monitors, so I decided to turn one of them off and see what that did, so I brought up fonv again. The game still crashes after 5-6 minutes, however, now it goes to the desktop instead of freezing, and it changes the resolution to something very low, like maybe 800x600 (I didn't check, but my icons got huge) And lowers the number of colors to 32 or maybe even 16 (Also didn't check, but my background image was all messed up like it is in safe mode). I tried this twice. The first time, I got the generic window xp error message (The one that asks if you want to send crash info to micorsoft) and when I tried to run the game again, it said my video card did not support the required resolution. (The launcher wouldn't even come up) The SECOND time, I managed to alt-tab out and used the task manager to forcefully shut down the game. Then when I tried to run it again, The launcher did run, but the screen went black (I could hear the launcher's music) and I had to shut down and restart to get my picture back. What. The. Fudge. SkyeFlyer
UPDATE 3: Through reducing all possible settings in the nvidia control panel's 3d settings for individual programs, I have stopped the crashes. I was able to play for over 6 hours non-stop. I will restore the settings one by one, to see which one was causing the freezes. Stay tuned. Iv000
UPDATE 3: Through reducing all possible settings in the nvidia control panel's 3d settings for individual programs, I have stopped the crashes. I was able to play for over 6 hours non-stop. I will restore the settings one by one, to see which one was causing the freezes. Stay tuned. The 3D settings in the control panel are vital for gaming.Things like Anti Aliasing should be as low as possible or even turned off, because it eats too much performance for almost no graphical improvement.Bump Mapping should be on the second lowest level (That's enough to have nice textures, and no big performance drop).Vsync should be off, since New Vegas has its own.If you have Adaptive AA (I have CCC so i don't know if Nvidia does have this) you should turn it off, or set it at the lowest setting, i haven't noticed any graphical enhancement wit it turned on, only more performance drops. Short said, experiment with them until you like it.I am having almost everything to lowest, since my 4850 is getting a bit old.Good luck with finding the troublemaker!
